Kilimanjaro Safaris While Pregnant?

I think you should be fine as long as you feel good. If you are having a queazy day then I would skip it.

Congratulations!!
I loved being pregnant...
such a great time in your life

I spoke with my OB right before our Disney trip and coincidentally he had just returned home from a trip to WDW with his family. He had ridden all of the rides just a week prior and was able to advise me what was okay for me (okay, but still at my own risk, of course). I was five months pregnant.

Of the rides with "warnings", I rode....

Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tomorrowland Speedway, Tower of Terror, Kilimanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Test Track, Expedition Everest.....

I chose to skip Space Mountain, Mission Space, Star Tours, Rock N Rollercoaster, Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur.

I absolutely would NOT ride Mission Space, especially the "intense" side.

My FIL has a bad back ( I know, not the same as being pregant) he rode everything and the ride that put his back out was Kilamanjaro Safaris. He was in the back row so that most likely made it bumpier, but some of the drivers go so fast that I don't think there could possibly be a smooth seat on the truck.

Personally I wouldn't take the chance. But I think you and your OB should decide. If you decide to sit this one out this time, not a big deal because next time you come back to AK with the baby, you can enjoy the ride together. :goodvibes

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

I was 9 weeks pregnant the last time I went to Disney and I did not ride the safari. At first I thought it would be OK (I'd been on it before and didn't think it was bad) but after speaking with some CMs and remebering how bumpy it can be I decided not to go.

When I was at Disney pregnant I didn't take ANY chances. If there was the slightest risk somethig might be too much I skipped it. There was still plenty to do (plus 9 weeks pregnant I was tired and not as energetic so rest time was also important). Also I've been to Disney before and I knew I'd be going again so in the scheme of things opting out of certain rides wasn't that big a sacrifice.

But as many others have said you should discuss it with your Dr. and do what you know is best for you and your baby.

Congratulations!

Don't ride it. A friend of mine-co-worker was in early pregnancy and rode this ride. When she got home from her trip she found out that she lost her baby. Doesn't mean the ride did it to her but she felt like it did and regretted riding it.

I would talk to your doctor and see how you feel. I rode EVERY ride when I was 5 months pregnant after my DR informed me that there was no real risk to the baby by doing so and that Disney has to post those to protect themselves from the liability to sue in a very sue happy world.

YOu are pregnant, not disabled.

Congrats!

The only one I would say you could do while pregnant that warns is Soarin' and maybe Kili Safari. Riding roller coasters can be very dangerous while pregnant, but Kili is like a bumpy road. That said, you can always ride it during another trip...I would take precautions whenever possible.

After reading all the replies I have to just put this out there and I apologize if it offends anyone.

Even though our babies are safely cushioned inside of us, it's not that they may be literally bumped around on some of these rides or even preterm labor, but it's the tiny developing blood vessels in their brains as well as placenta abruption that needs to be worried about.

God put us in charge of these babies and sometimes OBGYNs/pediatricians are not as well informed as mothers with the Internet and intuition. ;)

My mother has back trouble and didn't think she should ride this when we went a few weeks ago. Boy was she right! I had forgotten how bumpy it reallly was. We were in the back seat which I'm sure made it worse but we came off that seat a few times. BUMPY! Perhaps better safe than sorry!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm surprised so many think the Safari would be okay. I think it can be extremely bumpy and wouldn't even consider it. We've been in the jeep when we literally bounced in the air in our seats which is nothing like a normal pothole when driving or bumpy air during a flight. I hope you all have a great and magical trip!

Congrats!!!!:goodvibes

I rode it at 7 months. One tip I followed was to sit towards the middle and the middle of the row--you feel less movement there. I didn't have any problems...I felt perfectly fine. It also helped that I knew what to expect--and so do you.

One word of caution though...I felt like I could ride Star Tours for the same reason: I knew what to expect. I didn't remember it being that bad. Well, I was wrong! I should NOT have ridden that!!!!!:scared1: Fortunately, I was OK, but I was lucky!!!

Enjoy your trip! Despite my limitations, it was one of our best trips ever!:yay:

I will be 25 weeks when we go in a few weeks, and thought about KS, but I think I will pass, even though the bumps are probably what I experience here in the Chicago area on the roads or in a cab in NY or Chicago. But, every time my husband drives over the bumps I am certainly noticing it, and think it will probably make me feel like I have to get to the ladies room quickly, so although I think technically it might be fine, I don't want to feel that way during the whole ride and have to race to the rest room right after..... don't mean to raise an unspoken issue, but just a thought....

Well, Congrats! It is a very exciting time to be pregnant and expecting a precious little one. I am a mother of 4 children. All I can say is if I were pregnant with my first, knowing me, I probably would have ridden. By the time I preg. with my second, probably not. But, when I was pregnant with my third and at Disney, I did not.

To me, and I don't know if you have children, but I became more worried and more cautious with my pregnancies with each one. As you look into your child's eyes, that are already here, you think "how could I have done anything so minor to have the possibility of hurting you?" When I was at Disney with my two oldest and preg with my third, I just kept thinking there is no way I would even take a chance....I will ride it with them when they are older and enjoy it at that time, knowing that I took precaution to keep them as safe as possible.

Think about it like this, if the ride has a caution, treat it as if it were medication. Would you take medication that had a caution on it for pregnant mothers? They must have a reason for the caution sign.

All I can say, after having four children, is you do not want to regret it for the rest of your life, always wondering, what if I didn't ride. That would kill you.

Is anything going to happen to your child if you ride, probably not. But, lean on the side of caution, because when that little one is born, and you look into his/her eyes, you will wonder why you even thought about taking this chance.

Unless you have any special circumstances with your pregnancy in which you would need to be overly cautious, Safaris is totally safe. I rode it pregnant.

ditto. i was 5 1/2 mths pregnant when i went on this ride with no problems.

One thing to keep in mind....do consider not only the ride, but how you'd feel/how you'd fare if the ride stopped, and you had to be evacuated.

For example, I've seen Test Track stopped a great number of times. When it was new, it was stopped more often then it was running! Every time it gets stuck, someone gets stuck on the embankment part, and that's the last to be evacuated. Maybe the odds are low, but they are real. Some rides are easier to evacuate than others. Like Star Tours is pretty easy to evacuate.

Other rides that get stopped fairly often are Space Mtn and Splash. Last Time I was at WDW, Dinosaur stopped just as we were about to disembark. Folks inside had to be evacuated.

I'd also say for KS - it depends on the driver. Some are more aggressive than others. I've seen considerable variation on that ride.

Remember, there will be other trips to WDW. If you are going now, you'll be going with your kids. If' you're sad abot missing a ride, think about how amazing it will be to see the World through your child's eyes!

Think about it like this, if the ride has a caution, treat it as if it were medication. Would you take medication that had a caution on it for pregnant mothers? They must have a reason for the caution sign.

Tylenol has a caution on it for pregnant women.

Just sayin'

Just my OP but I would not ride it. You cannot be sure what may or may not happen, so why take the chance.

I don't know about the ride rating, but I think it would be OK. Its in a vehicle comparable to a bus. The ride can be a bit bumpy at times, but no more than you might experience once or twice in your daily driving!
