Kilimanjaro Safari question...

i am not absurd! maybe a little  , but never absurd!

i will go dig out my book, and be back...................

And what book would that be? The Making of the Jungle Cruise ? :confused3 :rotfl:

Actually I heard that the trucks that you ride on are not real. You never actually leave the loading area. They use the same technology as the Soarin' ride (which, as you've probably already read on these boards earlier this week, is being packed up and shipped overseas  )

Come on people .... think before you type ....... :rotfl2:

from Birnbaum's WDW the official guide - expert advice from the inside source, 2002:

" (relax. only harmless creatures approach. others, such as lions and cheetahs, only appear to invade your personal space.) "

You need to work on reading comprehension, they don't say anything is FAKE!.... that means the giraffe and wildebeast can walk across the roads but lions and elephants are contained to their areas. For example if you pay close attention to the elephant area you will see they are closed in by water and rock formations, they can't get to 'your space'.

goodness... what a thread I started! I appreciate everyone giving me their input on the best time to ride. We will head over there in the morning to see the animals first thing before it gets hot.

I know that sometimes you see them just "lion" around, but I'm sure that they are real. Here I found this picture... and I look forward to seeing all the animals in person in a couple months! yea!!! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: A serious thread turned into a hysterical one.....I LOVE it! :lmao: YES the ANIMALS are REAL you SEE them don't you? I went in Feb and the "Lion" was actually pacing back and forth and GROWLING at something across the field from him......I belive it was a Deer of some sort, and I "think" he was hungry. :p Thats what the Driver of the un-real vehicle we were in said. :rolleyes1

We like going in the morning as well. We actually spent 45 minutes in the safari vehicle one trip- because all the animals were so active that the vehicles couldnt' move along as quickly. There were animals crossing the roads, following us- it was great! We have also seen the cheetah running, and the lion walking around and roaring a bit.

To answer the OP's question, we have ridden at all different times, the last time was the last safari of the day and most of the animals were gone. I vote for in the morning when it is cool or around 5 - they seemed to be pacing back and forth a lot waiting for food then.

As for the lions being real, we were on a safari once and saw the lion and his lioness actively engaged in some adult "playtime" if you know what I man... all of the adults were cracking up with laughter and the kids thought they were playing. So I believe they are very very real.. Walt would have turned over in his grave if this was the new style of animatronic animals

We rode on June 23rd at or around noon and saw a lot of activity from the animals. We really enjoyed this attraction.

I would say in the morning, or get a FP for a little later in the morning. FP goes quick there.

If you don't get a Fastpass, try late in the afternoon. We have been there during Easter/Spring break the last few years and after about 3pm, you could walk right on. It was a pretty long wait for us, since we needed to wait for the one wheelchair spot in the handicapped car, but we could see some regular cars rolling out without even being full because people were not walking in fast enough.

THIS is the reason you thought the lions were "not real"?

The word "appear" used in a descriptive SENTENCE in a guidebook?

I guess my question at this point is:

Do you STILL think the lions and cheetahs are animatronic after reading THIS thread's discussion?

Are you sure the driver was real? I heard they were all animatronic. Hold on.... I'm going to get my book :rolleyes1

I think that line is going to stick with me for a LONG time.

I can use it in so many situations.

We always go first thing in the morning and we see alot of animals. But we have also gone while it was raining and saw all the animals on the board, not thunderstorm but right after thunderstorm while it is still drizzling. So if we are there and have already done it and it starts raining we head straight back there. I have never tried evening and since we are going to be there next week for EMH evening we might do it then. :teeth:

Don't wait too late to get into the queue for KS during PM EMH.

They cut the ride off at dusk.
No lights out there in the "wilds".

I agree, you should get in line ASAP if a thunderstorm is brewing. We had the best safari we have ever had with the thunder rolling. The animals were all pacing and very active. I have always seen rhinos, but there were so many I couldn't believe it! That is a must, and the line wasn't long since it was Feb. and everyone headed in before getting soaked. We did get wet desipte our ponchos because it was raining so hard before we got to the car, but it was worth it!

I don't know about audio-animatronic drivers, but when we checked at POR last fall I swear we had an audio-animatronic figure checking us in. He just repeated his spiel, no inflection, no emotion, not a single smile or anything. We had driven two long days to get there and we were almost giddy with excitement, but nothing we said could deflect him from the completely flat delivery of his memorized lines. We had two rooms, and after reciting all the information, he turned to my son (who had been standing beside me the whole time) and said it all over again. My son even said to me "gee, now they have check in robots too!"
