Will your gathering on Thursday (or Friday and so on if you do more) have a separate table for the kids?

Just curious. Growing up we always had one when the gathering included the extended family. I've always thought it was a bad idea, but now given some of the kids on my wife's side, I'm all for it.

We always had a kids table. I don't think it was necessarily because the adults didn't want to sit with the kids, but because the gatherings were bigger we required more tables, usually one being a card table of some sort and kids just fit better at them. Now we don't really have one but the kids usually end up sitting together anyway.

We never had one when I was growing up so I've never had one at our family gatherings.

We don't have that many kids--my dd is 15 and my niece has 3 little ones. We get a kick out of the little ones because we don't get to see them that often.

Plus my 9 yo great nephew is not a big eater and his dad insists he eat everything on his plate. He sits by me and I help him out when his dad's not looking. :teeth: I'm bad.

We had a kids table growing up, but our Thanksgiving gatherings have always been big. Now, we have about 3 or 4 different tables to try and fit everyone.

We always have a kids table. My family adores us, and we've always been included in all the conversations and everything. We just don't all fit at the same table. And I still have not been promoted to the "big kids table" any time besides my birthday, even though I'm now, legally, an adult. When we get together we're all kids, so it's litterally a kids table and a bigger kids table.

We've always had a kids table not because we made them sit at one table they just all like to sit together. Our group is at least 20 sometimes 30 so we have at least 3 tables.

At my aunts house, we usually do. Me and my one cousin (6 monthes younger than me) generally sit at the regualr table and the boys and my other girl cousin sit in the kitchen at the kids table. For christmas, the boys usually go downstiars in my other aunts basement and eat at the bar, while me and my cousins (15 and 5) sit in the kitchen and the adults eat in the dining room.

It depends on the year, the size of the gathering, whose house it's at, and the age of the kids. Last year we only had two families and we fit at one table. This year we have three - 15 altogether. Since there are too many for the table we talked to the kids. We decided to set up two card tables. The kids decided who will sit where. We have 4 4th&5th graders who will sit together, and 3 boys between 12 & 14 who will sit together. Two girls 12 & 14 will sit with the adults at the big table. It's all worked out ahead so there should be no upsets! It was funny - the kids started lobbying for seperate tables long before we'd even thought of it.

We do, because we barely have enough room at our dining table for the adults. I'm decorating it exactly the same as the adult table, with plastic and sippy cuts instead, of course!

Growing up, we always had kid tables. My dad's family was so big, and my cousins and I loved to sit together at it. The adults were boring to us. My family still does kid tables. My 2.5 year old loves sitting with the other kids, not the boring adults. :flower:

We only have one if they can't fit around the adults' table. My mom got an extra-long table (with lots of leaves) so all the adults and grandkids could fit around it. It's chaotic but really fun!

I'm 28 & still stuck at the kiddie table! I usually end up sitting with my kids at the kiddie table. This year my grandma is hosting even more people then usual because my cousin and his family are in town from Germany so we are adding 4 more for a total of 25 people I think. So I have no doubt i'll be at the kiddie table this year.

My whole apartment IS the kids table.

My Mom's doing Thanksgiving, and she lives downstairs, so naturally, since I'm the "young" one (I'm 29), she said the kids can all go upstairs to my place. I have video games and a computer and tv's and stuff. DH can "watch" them. Which is what ends up happening, too. At 30, he's still stuck at the kids table.

We did it all kinds of different ways with different family members when I was growing up. With one side of the family, the adults would set the main table and the kids would all eat first, then the adults would eat when we finished. My cousins there were all my age, so I liked that arrangement. :goodvibes

On the other side of the family, they had a separate little table for the kids and I was the oldest by about four years. It didn't matter so much when I was pre-pubescent, but after that I hated it.

At my mom's, there are just three kids, so they eat at the table.

When I was growing up, we always sat at the kids table. There were about 7 of us (brothers/sisters/cousins) that were pretty close in age, and we loved it!

We were at a family reunion a couple of years ago, and all of the cousins sat together at a separate table. One of my cousins finally said jokingly, "Look at us! We are in our 40s and still sitting at the kids table!". :teeth:

Nowadays, my kids usually just sit with the family during holiday dinners. There is such a variety in ages that a kids table just doesn't seem right.
