Our family stayed in the Jurassic Suite in early Feb. The room itself was beautiful--the kids loved it. The main problem is that there is really no privacy for the grown-ups in the room. This is a regular suite with the king-sized bed in the living room and a kid-themed bedroom. The door between the parents room and the kids room does have a lock, but only on the kids side! This could be a hazard if you had a younger child who pushed the lock by accident. The bathroom is on the parents side as well. The bathroom features a huge walk-in shower but no bathtub, so if your kids like to take baths they are out of luck.
The kids were thrilled with the TV in their room. It is bigger than the one in the adults' room. We spent awhile looking for the remote control to the kids tv before we realized that there was one shared remote for both TVs. The kids' TV cannot even be turned on or off without the remote and the Pay to Play video game system is also inaccessible without it.
We spent the first part of our vacation at WDW Wilderness Lodge. We had a room on the first floor just off the courtyard. At first we were disappointed not to have a balcony, but we quickly got over it when we realized that we had direct access to the pool without having to go through the rest of the hotel. We appreciated this WL feature even more when we moved over to RPR. I dont remember which Tower we were in, but it was the one at the front closest to the lobby. The only way to the pool from our room was to walk around half the building--including through the patio section of Jake's American Bar! I felt very self-conscious chasing my kids though a crowd of 3-piece suited businessmen in my bathrobe and filp-flops several times a day.
We shared the hotel with a large group of conventioneers. They were in meetings all day, so not a problem at the parks, but it got very noisy in the halls about 2 AM after Citiwalk closed (It probably didnt help that we were there during Mardi Gras).
We are already planning our next trip to Orlando. One of the main things we plan to do differently next time is our stay at Universal. We'd like to get 2 adjoining regular rooms at one of the other Universal Hotels--probably Hard Rock (since it is closer to the Parks)--and avoid the convention crowd.

Very disappointing. I can't believe there was no bathtub:sad2: I have never been in a hotel with no tub. I always assume it is a given. With these being sold to families, they should have remodeled.

I also understand not wanting to walk around the hotel restaurants and such with kids in bathing suits. That is one of the reasons we enjoy the Polynesian. I like the longhouses being separate from the main building.

Would you say it was a waste of money to spring for the kids suite? We are trying to decide between a kids suite at RPR or a regular room at PBH for next spring.

Depends on what type of budget your on cause if you can afford it then I say go for it and if you can't I would go for the standard room :thumbsup2

Our biggest issue with the JP suite was privacy. We spent 4 nights crammed together in one room at WDW and DH and I were looking forward to a couple nights of alone time. The set-up of the suite made this difficult.
I wouldn't say it was totally a "waste of money." The boys had a blast in their own room and since they are both HUGE Jurassic Park fans, the decor of the room was a bonus. Neither of them had ever been to WDW or Universal before and having their own special room added to the excitement and the memories they will have forever.
We are also planning another trip for next year. We plan on staying at the HRH are leaning towards 2 adjoining standard rooms or a deluxe king room adjoining a standard room (I called to check and this is possible). Pricewise, the 2 standard rooms are almost the same rate as a kids suite. The king and the double would be about 15% more. (These are estimates, since the 2009 rates aren't available yet).
Hope you have a great time wherever you decide to stay. The FOTL is awesome!!!!

It sounds like the room you were in is a makeover of a handicapped accessible king suite.

I bet they aren't all like that.

Hmmmm, just a couple of observations (not directly to anyone in particular) ...

1. Sometimes the HRH has convention overflow, for those who can't get into RPR ... Just FYI. None of the on-site hotels is immune to convention goers.

2. If you request Tower 3 of the RPR, you'd come out right at the pool. :)

3. Many of the King Suites at HRH just have a shower, no tub. These aren't our favorites either, especially since the one we were in had the shower w/glass door directly across from the vanity mirror. Not recommended for those with serious body issues. ;)

4. I wonder if the one remote for both TVs was just an oversight, and if you asked the front desk or notified Star Services if they'd have brought you another?

5. Totally agree that the lock is on the wrong side of the door! Hope that feedback gets to the hotel.

6. I totally think it is odd that some of the RPR Kids Suites are simply renovated King Suites, but you cannot upgrade to a Kids Suite as part of the LF program, but you can upgrade to a King Suite. They are the same size (sq. footage). Same general layout, apart from 2 beds v. 1 pull out couch. Same general location on each floor. I suppose to them, it's a genius marketing ploy -- no upgrades to Kids Suites, more expensive than King Suites for the same amount of space, but different decor/2 beds v. 1 pullout couch. :confused3

I agree with you and we are staying at RPR in JUly and have 2 DS's but can't justify paying the extra money for two beds instead of pullout and other than the themeing why so high :confused3

Interesting reviews - I am even more intrigued about our upcoming stay in a RPR's Kid's suite.

Quick reply for ky07 - I could be very wrong on this, but I believe a King Suite is listed as a 3 person occupancy room - one king bed and one pull-out sofa. A kid suite is listed as 4 person occupancy, thus the much higher rate for the suite. Indecently, we stayed in a King Suite last August 07 (Loews’s platinum upgrade - yea!) and we had a shower-tub configuration, so I am curious to see what our bathroom will consist of this time. I believe all of the kid's suites were created from existing king suites.

As a side note, my first choice would have been to rent 2 adjoining rooms at RPR, but I couldn't get an AAA or AP rate on 2 regular rooms, but I was able to secure an AAA rate on the kid's suite and save a couple bucks. This was a relatively last minute planned trip, so I was happy to get any discount at all. We are looking forward to our stay here, there will be 4 people in our party, myself, the Mrs., our son (15) and his cousin (17), and so a little extra room is a must for us.
