Kids' Shoes

I wanted to know what your kids wear on their feet at WDW. My DD's will be 5, 8 and 12 when we go. I intend to take old trainers, crocs and fitflops for myself, I'm just not sure about the girls. Any suggestions?

My other half's two DS came with us in April 2010, and we seemed to manage fine with well broken-in trainers with trainer-liner type socks most days, and Crocs for the water parks.

My DS wears Crocs during the day/in the parks and usually his Vans or trainers in the evening.

DD typically switches between flip-flops and trainers. DS sticks exclusively to his topsiders.

DD wears lelli kellys and crocs by the pool.

Last couple of years i've managed to pick them up cheaply in a sale/off ebay in September for our October trip - most people don't want summer stuff then.

I also bought her some twinkle toes sketchers trainers over there last time.

DS wore his crocs (with socks ), Fit Flop sandals (no socks fortunately) and some well worn-in trainers.

DD wore Clarks sandals that she'd worn all Summer and also had some well worn-in trainers.

I bought them both new trainers and sandals at the beginning of the Summer (about June time) and by the time we went in August both sandals and trainers were well worn in. I personally would look to buy their shoes approx 3-4 months before you go (depending on how quickly their feet grow, mine are slow growers luckily) which gives them plenty of time to wear them in (or let you know if they are not comfortable)

Thanks everyone! I've just ordered youngest DD a pair of Crocs. I think I might get a couple more pairs.

Crocs! They were a godsend! They/we had the standard style for day wear and the more stylish ones for evening meals etc

My kids always wear sneakers. They stay on during the coaster type rides. I saw many people loose their flip flops at CA when we were there last june. They even had a basket for them on some rides so people could take them off. (kind of gross but that is jmo. lol) Anyway, my kids walk...a lot. They are comfortable in their sneakers and we have never had too much of an issue of them getting wet...even on splash mountain. I do bring crocs for the pool and water parks however.

I'm thinking Crocs. I noticed Clarks have their Doodles in - although the girls may too big for them now.

I love Doodles because they are machine washable. I was looking at sandals because of what a previous poster said about losing your shoes on rides. I can imagine that happening to me. I might wait until the end of the summer and then hit the shoe sales.

I've been wondering the same thing, but for me not any children

I usually live in ballet flats or sky scraper heels so don't have a great selection of sensible shoes for walking!! I'm only a size 3.5 so can wear kids shoes. Might invest in a pair of crocs after reading the reviews here

I'm a 3.5 too. I get the size 4 Crocs as the size 3 are a bit small. I love my Crocs - I don't care if they are ugly, although I am a recent convert to Fit Flops too.

I hated crocs (ugly!!) until I found the Mary Jane style - I wear them in the parks now. Sports Direct, if you have one locally did them for £15 last two years.

Mine used to wear Doodles too - don't do them in their size now they're 16 & 18 DS wears trainers & DD MJ Crocs or other flat comfortable sandals - they're old enough to know the score now!!!

Crocs have been the way to go for us. We do each take a pair of pump style shoes with a strap over the bridge of the foot (usually Skechers) just so we are not wearing the same shoes all the time. Two points of caution with Crocs:

Make sure they are properly broken in before you take them. My relatively new ones one year seemed fine wearing around here for a whole day, but once we got to Florida with the heat and all the walking, they suddenly rubbed some nasty blisters

Second thing to be aware of is that Crocs that are too well worn can be terribly slippery on wet surfaces. I've also managed to do a spectacular wipe-out, not by the pool, but along one of the walkways outside the rooms at the resort when it had been raining.

My kids have shoes/crocs that I buy from Macy's. They mostly offer velcro which for my kids age is perfect (2,3,5 - all boys). Don't know what I would do if they didn't have velcro shoes on. Hope that helps/

I used to LOVE Doodles for DD - she's way past that stage now, but they were great!

DD takes a pair of comfortable, worn in sandals (I think last year was Skechers) and also a pair of crocs. I tend to put her in the crocs when we do AK and MK if we are riding any of the 'wet' rides. There is little worse than walking around in soggy shoes even in the heat

She also uses her crocs around the pool and at the waterparks as the ground gets really hot in the sun and even a walk from the pool to the room can be painful.

Whatever you get them, let them wear them for a couple of months for some serious walking and playing so that the shoes are properly broken in and don't cause blisters.

I have to say a massive thumbs up to the doodle sandels too- mine wore them on the last 2 trips and we didn't have any sore/rubbing/achy feet complaints.
After much muttering to myself (about how it's not fair when your child's feet get larger then a 13 that you can't get doodles) I have discovered with much excitement that Clarks have now extended their sizing. The style is slightly more grown up but still very soft, flexible and washable- hoorah!!!
