Kids Sharing Bed on Vacation for First Time?

they were almost 2 and 4 on our 1st trip- it worked out fine they are so tired by the time we get back they don't have energy to goof around.- Now this next trip in Dec we are staying in a family suite we'll see how that goes with the 3 of then in 1 room without us sort of. :cloud9:

We tried it 2 years ago at Disney over Spring Break for the first time (girls were 6 and 4). We were so excited to be staying in a 1 bedroom DVC villa at the Wilderness Lodge (king bed in the bedroom, sofa bed in the living area) ... we have visions of tucking the girls snug in the sofa bed and retreating to our luxurious king sized bed for reading, tv, etc.:rolleyes1

Yeah. That lasted about 2 minutes before the girls were fighting like cats and dogs. I wound up on that darn sofa bed with DD6 for the rest of the trip while DD4 and DH had the king sized bed. We tried putting DD6 down to bed first (she falls asleep quicker and earlier than her younger sister), then adding DD4 after DD6 was asleep. DD4 just kept poking and pestering her sister until she woke up (angry). Sigh.

Usually by the second night of WDW mine are quite tired and it really doesn't take long for them to fall asleep. If you want, you could start them out in separate beds and then scoot one over to the kids' bed so you don't have to sleep with them. Sleeping with the kids never works for me! :rotfl: And if you think they'd bother each other in the night, I like to put a pillow in between them to prevent kicking or other encroachments. Don't forget to push a chair or something close to the side of the bed for little, little ones.

Oh, I forgot to suggest sticking to your home bedtime routines. And a nice warm bath/shower sometimes helps settle them down. You know, put on the jammies, keep the lights low, the volume on the tv low and calming voices, etc. Like I said, mine get so tired, it isn't as hard as at home.

BTW, watching tv is never part of the routine at our house, except on vacation. ;)

My DDS have always shared a bed on vacation, but they share a room at home and are used to falling asleep together. My sons are another matter ... they are 13 and 4 and have never shared a bed. Last summer we made a bed on the floor of the hotel on vacation for DS(then 3). We specifically looked for a condo with bunk beds when we went to San Diego last fall and that worked. I think at whatever point we have to make them share a bed we will have to put DS4 down first and sneak DS13 in an hour later!

I remember sharing a bed with my sister on vacation as kids and my mother divided up the sheets and blankets so we each had our own set and couldn't pull them off each other!

I think I'd hedge my bets and take an air mattress. I'd tell them that if they can't manage to share a bed they will have to take turns sleeping on the floor.

My girls are now teenagers and have been sleeping together on vacation since they were very young. Now I think they actually enjoy it, they tease about "snuggling". Start it now, so it wont be a big deal later.

D-SIL I think you will be fine with my DN's sleeping in the same bed. DSis and I started sleeping in the same bed when I was 8 and she was 3 and it was fine, although we had a much bigger age gap.

Oh and D-SIL. Please no giggling and pulling off each other's covers when we are in ajoining rooms in September :).

When we stayed at ASSp DS and I shared a bed, DH had a bed to himself (He and I wouldn't fit comfortable on a full) and we had a blow up mattress for DD. She slept fine on the floor and with a little rearranging we had plenty of room even with the single size blow up on the floor.

That's what we did at CSR. The girls took turns on an areobed/sleeping with mom :) They have shared a bed before but it's nice to give them their own space. Mom suffers though .... the younger one toss and turns!
