I see (and wouldnt even imagine trying to use them) that kids scooters are banned from the parks. Are they permitted on the sidewalks at the resorts? The kiddos want to glide around POP and over to get gelato at AOA. Thanks yall!

Yes, they are banned at the resorts as well.

Thank goodness. I have almost been run over by so many kids more than once on the sidewalks up here. And once when a kid clearly almost hit me FROM BEHIND so I had no way of seeing him, he ended up wiping out because he swerved at the last minute - and then the parent tried to yell at me that it was my fault the kid fell. Um, no. First off, I had no idea your kid was barreling up behind me - and no, I didn't have headphones on - and second, I'm not the one letting my kid fly down the sidewalk pell-mell and way ahead of me.

I know for a fact they are not appreciated (is that Disney CM wording??) indoors (but there again it is common sense). At Boulder Ridge/ Wilderness Lodge I had an interesting conversation with a CM after 2 kids were gliding around the Boulder Ridge Lobby and hallways almost knocking me over. CM said they shouldn't be used indoors but there is no way to stop anyone.

Well, there is a way. Ban them.

It has been discussed on Disboards and other spots before that they are not allowed at the resorts. I've seen it published in numerous places that there are some kind of laws depending on locality that doesn't allow them on certain surfaces that applies to Disney. Some say Disney security would be called.

I am the first to say Mom's Panel is iffy but I did see this one .... in regards to a Disney resort, which matches what was found on other sites.

Unfortunately not. Areas laws prohibit the use of skateboards, skates, and rollerblades in shopping areas, parking lots and sidewalks. And Disney itself does not allow any wheeled items in the parks and resorts other than strollers and personal mobility devices such as EVCs and wheelchairs. Even wheeled shoes, such as Heelies, are not allowed at Walt Disney World.

Honestly POP and AoA are so close, they just aren't needed. And it is fairly busy on the sidewalks making it unsafe.

In 2006 at MGM I did get hit in the tuchis by a 11/12 year old girl and while she apologized her parents yelled at me until a CM told them they had to take the little toy out of the park (they yelled at her as well)

It’s examples like these and numerous other examples of other cases of guests behaving irresponsibly where I think Disney’s CMs and procedures need to change. When irresponsible parents allow their children to endanger other guests and property (in the lobby & hallways - really, do their kids ride their scooters in their living room at home?) the CM needs to identify the parents and room number, security needs to visit the parents and offer them an option - the scooters go to bell services for the duration of the visit or the group must vacate the premises. Frankly as attendance keeps going up WDW really needs to be more proactive in weeding out those who don’t abide by the rules in place for the safety and enjoyment of all.
