Kids Riding Alone & Super Shuttle Question

Hey folks! Long time lurker, first time posting. I had two questions I am having a hard time finding clear answers to.

1. I know that kids 7 and up can ride the rides alone so my question is: can I wait in line with my kiddo (he’s 8) but not ride it myself? The rides in particular I was looking at are Jumpin Jellyfish, Astrorbitor, and Symphony Swings. I am terrified of heights so I cannot do these rides but I don’t want him to miss out on them just because I’m a chicken! We didn’t go on them last summer when we went so this time I want to see if he can go on alone while I wait and watch him. He also is dying to try Screaming/Incredible coaster but I’m not ready to let him do that alone! Maybe next year.

2. Last year we booked Super Shuttle to and from the SNA airport and only paid $20 each way for us. But now I’m looking at it and it says $35 each way. Did their prices really go up that much? Or is there some coupon code I’m missing? It’s still just the two of us with only one bag. Maybe I used a magic coupon I’m forgetting?

Thanks all.

1. Yes, you can wait in line and decline to ride. This is true for every ride as they will not force you to board a ride vehicle. There is always an "chicken exit." Kids 7 and up can ride any ride alone, though they must still meet the height requirements of course.

2. Super Shuttle was $35 for me from LAX a few weeks ago. I would think SNA would be cheaper since it is so much closer.

When I look it's $20 each way for two passengers to a hotel on Harbor from SNA.

For Symphony Swings there is also a height requirement to ride alone. I would guess that at 8, he's over 48", but kids between 40" and 48" need to ride in a tandem swing with someone over 14 and over 48". Other than that, yes, you can keep him company in line and then exit the ride before getting on. Just tell the CM that you do not plan to ride.

For Super Shuttle, there are very different prices depending on whether you select Disneyland as your destination or an area hotel (e.g., when I put in Disneyland, I got a shared shuttle price of $25/person and when I put in the Best Western Park Place Inn, I got $10/person for the Shared Shuttle option). Otherwise, I do think prices fluctuate a little depending on time, day, demand, etc.

Another option is Lyft or Uber. I used Lyft to and from SNA last week and it was between $20 and $25 each way (cheaper was early on a weekday morning, Saturday afternoon was more expensive). The wait was pretty short (<10 minutes) and I didn't have to deal with any other drop-offs. That being said, I don't know how car seats/boosters would work if you needed one for your son.

You can wait in line with him. They won't make you ride.

What is it that makes it so you don't want him to do the coaster by himself? Is it that you can't see him the whole time? On the old trains they had a seat on some of the trains where a person would be seated by themselves, no stranger next to them. I assume the new trains will too as they appear to just be repainted. You could always request that he gets that seat if you don't want him seated next to a stranger on the coaster. You should be able to stand at the exit (on the other side of the line) and wait for him to get off so he's only out of sight when on the coaster itself.

Use the hotel name. Don’t use zip code. Hotel name yields a lower price than zip code.

Yes anyone can leave a line at any time. So you can get to the seating part of the line and let him go while you ask a CM for the exit.

I understand the fear of not letting him go on a big coaster alone. I’ll still scare myself silly (to the point of quietly sobbing one day when he mentioned wanting one more big coaster ride) at Universal Orlando because I don’t want to hold DS back (he’s nearly 14) from riding some big rides, but cannot stand the idea of him going (and this is when I think of the worst case scenarios) alone.

When we did let him go on Screamin’ alone (if I was not feeling well etc) he used the single rider line, which made it easier for me to watch him in line without going in the line.

My granddaughter just turned 7. We are careful about which rides we will let her ride solo. Not because of the ride, but because of seating. For example, she will not be riding Goofy's single rider. We do allow her to ride Matterhorn single rider, same with Splash. She is a wild child and loves all the coaster rides. All she wanted for her birthday was to ride single rider!
