so, we are planning on taking in our own drinks to save a few bucks and because we aren't pop drinkers.
I read where in AK you can skip the bucket that comes with the kids meal and save $2.
Can you also ask to skip/hold the drink at a reduced cost? If not, I guess we take in less drinks since we will buying a meal here and there.

I don't know, (my gut says you couldn't just hold the drink, you'd have to hold the sides, too but I don't know that for sure), BUT you can always get water to drink. If you're not a water drinker you could get the mix in drink packets which would be way less to carry than actual cans/bottles of something else.

I don't know that you can still skip the sand pail at Animal Kingdom. My husband was the one who ordered in October but he said he couldn't. On the upside, the fill the entire bucket with french fries which allowed us to stretch the meal further with a 9-year-old.

I don't think you can exclude the drink or sides in a kids meal. Adult meals drinks are sold separately so you can definitely save on the adult meals. Not sure about skipping the bucket either. I have never heard of that.

Remember also that kids' meals include milk as an option. While I agree that water is a better choice than pop, even on vacation I like to make sure the kids get milk every day.

I'm not sure how old your kids are, but the adult size qs meals are huge and could easily be split between kids.

Definitely this.

We don't buy kids meals. Adult meals can be shared and offer more variety. We just drink water. Have been doing this since our first trip.

And alternatively there are some decent kids' meals that are fine for a light-eating adult. The Land has a few good ones (I like the salmon). Harbor House is the same food but smaller portions (fish and chicken, I think).

You can get free cups of water at any location (sizes vary) and skip having to carry drinks. That's what we do if we want drinks beyond our DDP meal drinks. Kid meals vary a lot in size and quality but I have enjoyed a few myself. DS8 mostly shares an adult CS meal with me leaving his kid CS credits as a snack for our older son and they really do have some good choices. Drinks included. If you want water, get a juice box that is easy to take with you for breakfast or later.

I just read about skipping the bucket thing the other day - but, don't ask me where! I don't think they offer it - you have to request to NOT have it... one parent complained about having to carry it all day long... so, that along w/ saving a few bucks they declined it and saved $2. Will try to verify this next week when we go.
Yes, great idea about sharing an adult meal and we do try to do that - but, my DH and I tend to like spicier foods or foods my DS doesn't care for - but, we could manage I am sure!
Thanks everyone!

Are adults permitted to buy kids meals? I suppose they are so busy at a QS they don't have time to question it!?

I have three kids, so I think more along the lines of two kids sharing an adult meal. I guess that doesn't work as well if there's only one child in your party.

They have no idea who the food is for. Usually just one of us orders the food. The whole family doesn't go through the line together. So you could order three kids meals and they'll assume you're buying for three kids.

In October, we were not allowed to "skip the bucket". Maybe it varies by CM?

Additionally, kids meals are good at a few locations but largely are not great options for adults(or kids for that matter). DS mainly ate adult meals because of the quality of many of the kids meals.
