Kids meals on DXDP?

So if we are going to a nice TS restaurant and our kids (9,3) don't like anything on the menu, can we order just for ourselves, maybe they can have a bite or two off of ours and then they can have something like a QS at Electric Umbrella, for example.

You can always order less meals than people. You can share, or just save their credits for someplace else.
But I can't imagine CS menus being any more kid friendly than TS. Typically, you will find more kid friendly options (though similar options) at the TS restaurants. Your typical pasta, Mac & cheese, hamburgers, nuggets, personal pizzas -- are available at just about every TS restaurant.

We just got back from 8 days on the DxDP with our 3 year-old son and we never experienced any problems in finding him things he enjoyed from the kids' menus. Of course, he loved sharing from our meals, too, but with the table-service meals, I was pretty impressed. If you look at the menus online before, you can make sure that you make ADRs at table-service locations that have varying menus, as we did notice some of the kids' menus repeat at different restaurants. The food was pretty healthy, too! :) All of the restaurants were we asked for substitutions (like apple slices and carrots instead of fries or rice instead of potatoes) were more than willing to accommodate if the requested item was available. Just ask! They all seemed so willing to want to impress which worked well for us! :yay:

Thanks for the fast replies. We were thinking of upgrading the plan to DxDP but were concerned not so much about the cost but about the time spent as well at these restaurants as it would take away from the day itself. Did you find with a 3 year old that you still had enough time to do everything you wanted and still enjoy the parks?

We did deluxe with a 6yo and 4yo...

Worked well. They are too young to run around the parks for 10+ hours. So sit down meals were a nice break.
We only did 2 sitdown meals a day --- usually an early lunch and a signature dinner. The dinner became our evening event. Parks were 9-3, with a lunch break.

Yeah, I find that the whole "DxDP takes too much time out of your day" to really not be all that accurate. The longer meal breaks generally take the place of some other form of "downtime", especially with younger children -- I don't hear many DxDP folk say they go back to the resort in the afternoon for a rest, for example.

What it does do is force you to be a more thorough planner, though. You've got to plan your touring and dining schedules to compliment each other, so it certainly favors those who like to plan and are good at it.

i've been looking alot at menus as thinking about upgrading to dxddp

I've got a DD who will be 6.

Options certainly seem better at signatures - more 'real food' i.e a smaller version of steak, chicken etc but also an option of macaroni cheese etc.

Personally I would re think if you are going to do TS then a QS for the kids.
DDP may work better for you.

We've done the deluxe when the girls were 4 and 5 yo and it was always a welcome break. Since they were not able to run around the park for so long every day it was a schedule down time. We usually did the signature meals right after our afternoon break at the hotel before heading back to the parks. Some instances we only ordered them a soup and paid oop ( asw it was not worth wasting a meal credit for a $4 purchase)as they weren't too hungry but they always found something on the menu that they liked. Also the chef at one of the restaurants had been told by our waiter that one of our girls didn't want anything from the menu and he came out to ask if there was something else she would enjoy. He offered her so many more options but she declined everything as she was truly not hungry LOL We decided that deluxe was the only way for us to go to Disney as it makes the kids happy with character breakfasts and mommy and daddy happy with signatures plus my girls get tired really fast of eating the same all the time and it's a way to get them to eat more variety
