Kids in the Car Tip

I read this tip over on my shopping board, and thought I would post here:

Right now at Dollar Tree they have knock-offs of MAGNETIX (tubes and ball-bearings that are magnetic toys)...these are in sets of about 25 per pkg I think...Anyway, you can buy a couple of pkgs of these, as well as a small cookie sheet at Dollar Tree....the cookie sheet acts as a base on the child's lap, on which to build with the MAGNETIX! cool, eh?

(At least I thought it was ~ ha)...

ANYTHING to keep the kids entertained in the car, I always say!

My DD 4 loves Color Wonder Markers from Crayola. They have kept her entertained for the longest time. What's great about them is that they don't leave color on anything but the Color Wonder paper. I pack them up when we are visiting at friends or families homes. It is a relief for me not to be worrying about getting marker on the furniture.
You can get plain paper or coloring books.

My kids like the invisible ink mazes. You can get them at toy stores or Walmart and the ink won't mess up the car. I also have a magnetic word set (from some catalog, I don't remember which) and DS likes to make up funny sentences and stories with it on a magnet board that I got from Staples. Hope this helps the "how many more minutes?" problem!

Books...if they are old enough to read, get them books. Also, get them activity type publications - puzzles, seek & find, etc.

Kids get a lot out of educational stuff on trips.

We have tons of Disney books on CD and they are a must have for long car rides. I got a lot of them at BJ's wholesale club for cheap.
