Hi all-

We have ADR's for Jiko on our upcoming trip and wanted to go to AKL early to explore the resort. We'd like to have a pre-dinner cocktail, but were wondering if kids were allowed in lounges in Florida. DS, 15, will be with us and I'm sure he'd like to have a "mocktail" with us.

I have seen kids in there before. Lots of people go to the lounge while waiting for their buzzers for Jiko or BOMA to go off.

Thanks for the reponse! I thought I'd check because in Washington state, you have to be 21 to enter a bar/lounge and I know that other states differ.

As far as I know, I think it is ok, we've been to many lounges with our kids and no one has ever said anything about it. We see lots of kids with their parents in lounges as well. We always treat our kids to a virgin pina colada or strawberry daquari. It's fun and gives parents a chance to relax a while!

Kids will be fine in the lounges and they do have non-alcoholic drinks you can get for them. My girls and I end many days at WDW in the lounge of our resort. We have one last drink before bed, write in our journals and talk about the day just completed. Having them in the lounge has never been an issue.

Just confirming - kids are allowed. There were a lot of kids there with the parents waiting to eat at Boma or Jiko when I was there in April.

Just so you know, WA liquor laws are much more relaxed than that. In places that serve only beer, kids aren't allowed. But to get liquors added to a liquor license, you have to have a restaurant, and get a certain percentage of money from food sales. To be a restaurant you have to let kids in at certain times. Therefore, once you're serving booze vs just wine and beer, you have to let in kids!

There are still exceptions, I believe, for really divey places. But generally in WA a place with the expanded liquor license will simply keep kids from sitting at the bar itself, but they can be in the establishment at normal tables, for certain hours.

OK I have too much info about that.

And I don't know about WDW, but at Disney California Adventure, kids are most definitely allowed in the Cove Bar, just not right at the bar.
