It's curious how old were your kids when they were finally able to ride some of the bigger rides (splash, btm, soarin) and were they normal height taller or a little shorter (or what size clothes lol) were planning on booking for my nephews first trip, and I really want him to ride some of our favs but worried about the height issue, he's 3, and will be almost 4 when we go (looking at dec 3rd, he turns 4 on the 23rd) since this may be his only trip I want him to be tall enough for most
Stuff... He is a taller 3 yr old but want to see what you all think ;)

You may be able to get an idea by his height now. The rides you listed have a minimum height of 40". My DD was almost 5 before she hit that height. She was always in the 50th percentile.

Allears.net has a great height requirement table. You can measure him (in inches) and look at the table to see which rides he is tall enough for. I just did this with my DS today. He's so excited to do EVERYTHING, I thought it wise to prepare him for possible disappointment. :)

he seems to be growing pretty fast but hard to tell, last month he was for his 3 yr checkup he was 36 inches.

Yeah I've seen them, all the rides I care about are 40inches. Just not sure how much he will possibly grow in about 10 months :/ I may delay the trip if he doesn't quite make it.

I don't have kiddos of my wn, but have taken a sister and niece and nephews and planning on taking another sister and her family this year. I was kind of in the same predicament a year ago trying to figure out when I should take sister number 2. My twin nephews were 5 1/2 at the time and were def tall enough for the mountains, EE, Dinosaur and ToT, but not RnRC (48 inch requirement). My niece (age 3) however was just 36 inches and I didn't think she could grow 4 inches in the 6 months that we had so we decided to wait. Now a year later she is 39inches tall....that is barefoot too. Fairly certain we are going Oct this year and I have every bit of faith she'll hit the magic 40 inch mark. I totally know what you mean about wanting to make sure your nephew is able to enjoy some of the bigger rides. I've read on avg toddlers grow 2-3 inches a year. I keep telling my niece she needs to make sure to get lots of sleep and eat her fruit n veggies so she can grow big and tall and be able to ride rides. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. It is soo hard to tell, but this gives me hope, and the fact that he taller than most kids his age. All I really care about is splash and soarin.

4 inches in 10 months - it'll be close for sure. I know Disney is pretty strict on their measuring policies too. I would imagine a pair of shoes can get you 1/2 an inch or so. I'm bummed b/c I wanted to go when my nephews still thought characters were real, but one of them told me a few weeks ago "I know Poohbear is just a man in a costume, but I still want to give him a real big hug". Such a hard decision on when to take them when you know it will probably be the only trip.

He already has a pair of lighting McQueen shoes that will add some height (as long as he grows into them) I want to go in dec for his bday present. That's sweet of your nephew to say that. I don't think my nephew will really grasp that quite yet luckily, we watch disney trip videos and asks all the time when he can meet the real Mickey Mouse and buzz whiteyear ;)

Awww - what a sweetie - I love how innocent kids can be. The other twin keeps saying things like "the next time you're at Disney will you bring me back xxxxx." I keep on responding "I want the next time that I'm at Disney for you to be with me". And a birthday at WDW....I can't imagine how awesome that will be - especially at Christmas time with all the decorations....it's so beautiful! I really hope he grows fast!

I agree, just depends on where he falls as far as heigh. My son turned 4 in December though and he's only 38 inches tall, he's not tall for his age but he's not extremely short either. Expecting 4 inches in the year between 3 and 4 seems like a bit of a stretch but every child is different. (my son is only 2-3 inches taller than he was last year according to our growth chart)

My son is 6 and is 44 inches exactly. He seems to be average in his class and he wears 6/7 clothes. I can tell you though that we went when he was 2, and was still able to ride the vast majority of everything and had a great time! Another thing to consider is the temperament of the child. Just because they are technically tall enough to ride SM, doesn't mean they could handle it! That same trip we took my 4yo nephew, and he absolutely hated most rides. He was scared of almost all of them...and we NEVER saw that coming. He's normally adventurous and fun...and loved the rides at fairs etc. Word to the wise....DO NOT take him on the stitch attraction first. Even if he begs because he loves Stitch. I think this was our big mistake. Lol.

My son is really tall for his age (DH is 6'7"). He was 35" on his 2nd birthday (tall enough to ride the barnstormer), but is just shy of 40" and he'll be 3 next weekend. You'd be surprised at how long it takes to get that last few inches. We thought he'd be tall enough to ride Splash Mountain last October, but even with thick tennis shoes he was a little too short. My point is, it's hard to tell how long it will take to grow a few inches. Good luck though!

Haha yeah on the stitch ride. Thankfully he doesn't really know stich, I also want to do its tough to be a bug but not sure lol, I want him to at least try splash. (And it will be his first "big" ride since it takes a picture ;p I'm so mean! Lol. He is pretty laid back as long as I'm there so we shall see.

Aw that's cute. We love going in dec, and want to go all out for this birthday for him (it will be just me my dad and nephew) he gets screwed every bday so far. It's 2 days before christmas. His family just can't afford much ;( to due both in a row.. When he is older they are going to do half bday party's for him but right now he doesn't notice (and I spoil him to make up for it lol)

My dd turned 4 in December and she was 40" then. She is wearing 5T's and sadly some girls XS too! Good luck!

My son just turned 6 and he is 43 inches. He's on the smaller to smaller average end of the scale. My 2 1/2 year old is 36 inches and on the bigger end of the scale!

We went to DL when my daughter was 3y3m, and she could ride all the 40" rides. I think she was somewhere around 41"? She rode SM but wasn't a fan because her shirt got wet :)

Eta: she's now 5.75 and 47".

Like others have said it just depends on where he/she is at on height more then age.
Last year my son who was 5 1/2 was 41 inches. This year our other son who just turned 4 this month is 41 inches!
