Kids earning money for WDW

I was thinking of giving my kids (ages 3 & 6) an allowance. We've always used a reward chart with stickers and frankly they are sick of stickers. Thought since we're going to WDW next year, it might be a good idea to have them earn some money for when we go (they don't know we're going yet).

Didn't know if anybody had advice for setting up an allowance system. Kids are 3 & 6 - I have no idea what they should earn per week and what chores you've used. 6 yr old already feeds cats dry food, cleans room (sometimes), picks up his toys throughout house, empties small wastebaskets in bathrooms. 3 yr old gives dog his bone in the a.m., helps me with 10 month old baby when I need it - gets diaper/cream etc., cleans her room (w/help) & picks up toys. Trying to make this fun for them and also a learning experience. Thanks as always for the tips.

Sounds like your little ones are great helpers. We are doing something similar. My DS9 gets a certain amount each day if he does all of his required chores, if not he doesn't get anything. My DS4 helps out as well but I haven't started the chart with him. We are going to go to the Disney store to get Disney Dollars to use as incentives for them. If you are unfamiliar with them they are Dollars with Mickey,etc. on them and you can use them anywhere at WDW. You might want to incorporate this into your reward system. My kids love them.

I have three sons, 9, 7, 4, they all have about 5 chores they have to do and each get $1 a week when they are done. They have the oportunity to earn an extra 5 cents each day they make their bed, and additional optional small chores are offered on Saturday to earn extra money.



To save for disney, they can put quarters into a cup marked with their name, and I double their money. This is for arcades and pressed penny machines.

I have 2 DD 5 and 7. They each have a chart in their room with their chores. They are very simple ones like make bed, clean toys up, get dressed, nad brush teeth. Every time they do their chore we check it off and at the end of the week they get their allowence and put it in their Disney folder. They get 5 dollars a week, if they do a chore for a day I take a dollar away. For Easter and birthdays we are going to give Disney Dollars. They love it. Hope this helps

I used a print shop program to print up address label size pieces of paper that say "Good toward 10 cents for Disney". Each time my DD does a chore she gets a slip of paper. Then I will add them all up and give her that amount of money. She gets one whenever she sets the table, straightens her room, makes her bed, cleans the litter box, etc... We've only been doing this for 2 weeks and she already has $2 or $3 worth.

She even made a Disney bucket to keep them in, by cutting a hole in a butter tub and decorating it with Disney stickers. She loves this, and has been very helpful these past few weeks. Hopefully, she will keep it up.

We do this for our two DDs 6 & 9. They have regular chores that they don't get paid for, but we have optional chores that they can do to earn extra Disney dollars for our trip. I also put together school work packets that had an assigned Disney dollar amount for extra practice with math facts and handwriting. They love to play school anyway, so these were a big hit.

My 3 children get 10.00 a month allowance (the first Saturday of the month). They put 5.00 in the bank and keep the 5.00 to spend. (I did give them 1.00 each month for charity or church but it never ended up where it needed to be. so, now we donate 25.00 every six months to a charity of their choosing and we donate 1.00 to Feed the Need EVERY time we go to the grocery store).

Their allowance is not tied to chores. I say they need money so they can learn how to manage it and they do chores because they live in out house!

We allow them to earn extra money by picking up all the sticks in the yard (a penny per stick) or extra chores around the house.

when we are shopping they will say "Can we have the 5.00 box of cereal?" and I say "sure you can buy it with your money."
and they ALWAYS say "nevermind!"

I have been giving them their allowance in Disney dollars for a few months now and so they have no cash to spend!! But i want them to have their own money in WDW.

I love the idea of little sheets with chores for disney written on them. Great idea!!

my kids are 7 and 9. i made some of my own "disney dollars" and hand them out for "random acts" like being extra helpful without being asked, a grade of 100 on a big test, treating each other special. they never know when they are coming - and they can't ask for them. so far so good....
