Sorry the image is sideways...LOl

Thank you! That top one is exactly what I'm looking for.

I heard of people using one of the wood burning tools with the flat tip to burn the ends of ribbon. Was that on this board? Also you can use a lighter but, :scared1: eeeeek If it was one end I would do that but, surely after a few I would burn myself.

Thanks for the comments on my outfit. I forgot to add I am working on a hat to match it.

design_mom, It took me about 45 minutes to figure out the button hole. What kind of machine do you have. I have a cheapo brother. It may be easier for one of us with a machine similar to yours to explain it than going by the book. My instruction book sucked.

I use a candle to seal my ribbon ends. It's kind of like toasting marshmallows - you hold it close enough to the flame to seal the ends but not so long that you burn it! :rotfl: You'll get the hang of it and honestly I've never singed my fingers!

It took me alot of practicing to get neat with the satin stitching on my appliques. I have the Disney Brother machine, and I set my stitching to 3.0 and 0.5.

I'm not a good explainer/teacher but I'm going to give it a try. :worried: I'm right handed so it may be different for a left hander. I stitch my appliques with my needle hitting the outside of the applique on the right. Does that make sense?

For turns, I stop sewing, and I lift the presser foot and turn the fabric. I might have to lift the presser foot after each stitch and turn the fabric.

There may be a better way, but this is how I do my stitching.

ETA pic: I snapped a pic to show what I mean about having the needle hit on the outside of the applique. Please excuse the thread fuzz.

Thanks so much for the details!!! I have not yet tried to do any applique as I just started sewing a month ago!!! I know everyone says you use a satin stitch for the applique. Which stitch is that? Is it just one of the zig zag stiches (which is what it looks like). i think I need to buy the right foot for my machine.

On the Brother SE-270 D it is stitch #54. I looked in the index of my machine's manual for "satin stitching." My manual gives detailed instructions for satin stitching. I had to play with it to figure out which adjustments looked best. I like the 3.0 and 0.5 on my machine. :)

You must have the patience of a saint! You did beautiful work and it's so detailed! Times 2! :faint:

I can't wait to see the whole outfit! You should be very proud!!
Thanks! :)

I thought I'd have both pairs of pants sewed together by this time today. I'm almost done with one pair. :)

I have to share. I have spent the past 12 days appliqueing (sp?) these Wiggles on the pants. :faint: Finally, I'm done, and I can sew the pants together. Keep in mind that I have twins so I appliqued 10 of the Wiggles guys. There will be ruffles on the ankles in the same fabric as the music notes.

I've already done one shirt with the Wiggles logo - all appliqued and stitched. I would post a pic, but the shirt is at my mom's house for her to do the zipper. Zippers are my nemesis. I'll be starting on appliqueing the second shirt as soon as I get the pants finished.

I got the Wiggles from searching custom Wiggles outfits on ebay. I figured it would be ok to use her stuff as inspiration since I'm not selling the outfits. . . EVER! :) Like I said earlier, I could sell an outfit for $1,000 and still feel like it wasn't worth the money. I've been working daily for 3 weeks now, and I'm still a few weeks away from being done.

ETA: I think it is the camera angle that has the Wiggles looking a bit on the angry side.

That is adorable! You should be very proud of yourself!

:goodvibes Mono-Rail - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Your explanation does make sense and the picture really helped. I am gonna give that a try and see if I can get better. If I end up with anything good I will post a picture. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for the pictures and information. I have the 270d and I am glad you gave out the details on your satin stitching. I have been playing with mine and I haven't liked any of them so far, but yours looks great so I will go back and try that. Are you using the embroidery thread or regular thread to satin stitch?

Very VERY impressive! No wonder you would never selll your outfits! So much detail. Congratulations!

Hi ladies!

I know I posted this before, but I'm going to post it again. Here's the link to all of my boutique outfits, in case anyone new is looking for ideas!

All those clothes are so cute. Now that I read your pretrip report guess I will be reading the whole trip report when you get back. Where did you get the Aladdin outfit? Did you make that one too? Your kids are so cute.

Here is my first try at Korkers. I like them, but they kind of lay over and aren't real perky. Any tips? I did some ribbon with the starch, and some without. The ribbon without, seems a little limper. So I did 90 percent of them with it. I used 36 pieces in each one. I followed the directions on one of the websites you all provided.

Those are really cute!!!

Here is what I did with the korker bows that I made. I made the korker ribbon without putting anything on them (water or starch). Then I made the hair bow how I wanted (just like you did above). After the hair bow was made, I sprayed it with the fabric stiffener and hung it upside down while I pulled the curls how I wanted. I then sprayed it again and used a blowdryer to help with the stiff effect. The curls stood up and looked really cute. Every once in a while after some wear, I would just repeat my process. Seems like a lot to do but I wanted the curls to stand up.

Not sure if it would work but shorter corkers might work and maybe up your # that you use.

Thanks I will try the fabric stiffener stuff. Where do you find it? I don't recall seeing anywhere. That's a great idea. Definately next time I will be using more. Maybe like 50 in each. Also I paid a pretty penny for that ribbon. It was like 1.00 for each color, so it's like 10 dollars to make the bows. Does that seem expensive to you? I might look for some already korked ribbon next time, to save myself the rolling time...LOL

Not real sure about the ribbon pricing. I used to use a lot of solid colored ribbon (b/c it's the cheapest) when I was doing the korkers and then adding "some" of the patterned ribbon in with it to make it fuller. I would also use some of the narrower ribbon b/c it is usually cheaper as well. I got most of my ribbon at Wal-Mart. I really like to use that Spool O' Ribbon that comes in about 3 or 4 different widths and doesn't usually run over .75 for the whole spool.

My backyardigans outfit is done...ok I know NOT Disney. ;) Pretend it is Mickey if you must. ha ha My first button holes. First time using a machine to sew on buttons. First blind stitch hem (I think that is what it is called) a couple places didn't catch but it doesn't mattter I don't think. Also my first applique (on the pockets). Next one will be a mickey one I think. The legs look like they don't match up in the picture for some reason, but they do. It fits him perfectly too, I was shocked about that. He is 21 months old wears a 2T/3T and I made the toddler size 4 McCalls.

Looks great! I bought that same pattern to make outfits for my son. He is 11 mos now and wears 18 mos clothes. We aren't going until he is 21 months, so I hope the larger size still fits him. I am a basic sewer, was the pattern easy to do?

How long are the pieces? I usually make mine 3" long at the most, longer than that seems to droop. I have never used the fabric stiffner until tonight, but I love it! It is the same one that was recommended. Great idea hanging them upside down!:goodvibes

I finally made something I can post. Someone posted a bow making website a few pages back and they had these adorable bows and I just had to try these! Of course the only thing I can make is bows and my daughter says she is too old!
