Oh my gosh DisneyLovingFamily that is just too cute. Go Ravens !:cheer2:

There are some people on here that turn out excellent outfits every time and don't really need to be told so, and you are one of them. BUT, I just have to say it anyway... Great job!

Thank you! Believe me, I have my share of failed designs... I just don't share them. ;)

You never fail to amaze. Your creativeness is unlimited! I continue to remain impressed with the designs you create, the fabrics you put together, your appliques -- well, just everything.

I always dreamed of being a clothing designer but never thought it would happen. When kind ladies here on the DIS encouraged me to try it on a small scale, it was too hard to resist. Now I just wish I was faster at sewing so I could use up more of my fabric stash. LOL

Nope I said that, and "Just 12 inches please." And finally "Really, only a foot of it."

I'm sure they're so used to people getting 5 yards or even saying "I'll take it all" so anything under a yard is a shock. LOL I don't often get less than a yard now but when I made quilts for friends I usually bought as little as 1/4 yard.

Come on people, why I am bananaing by myself?

NO MORE HAND SEWING!!!!!!! Last night I was up until 2 and become close friends with my seam ripper but I finished the apron of my alice dress which includes a cute scalloped lace border. I know it's not much but today I am on to the dress after my mom has me make custom placemats and cloth napkins for the kid's table for the birthday party for my dad tonight---oh well at least I get to go back to the fabric store and who knows maybe mamma will buy me some Halloween fabric that I have been eyeing up.

Woohoo! After seeing your hand sewn sets, I'm sure the machine made ones will be darling. Have fun with the new machine!

Okay ladies and Tom of course. Here is my first creation with a pattern, McCall's 5088. After a long intimate night with my seam ripper :headache: and thinking very nastry thoughts in my head it is complete :cheer2: , top and bottom are from the same pattern. I think I will add a ruffle to the bottom but I haven't decided yet so it is left unfinished. Now that I have done one I think the next ones will be much easier. :cool1:

Oh that is very cute. I think a ruffle on the pink would be the prefect finish to the pants. I think you're right that the next time you make something with that pattern or a similar one, you'll find it easier.

Gosh, Lisa, I wish for just once you would post something that I didnt just fall in love with  !!! I absolutely love this....and I was just thinkin....couldnt an adult wear that one...:confused3 :rotfl2: Its just sooo stinkin cute! :thumbsup2

Thanks. I think an adult could definitely wear this style. :)

hi - when making patched jeans, do i need to back the patches? thanks, wendy

Do you mean use fusible web to hold the patches to the jeans? If so, I don't use any but I know others who do. Some people use a fabric glue (spray or stick) that washes out. That keeps the patches in place until they are sewn but doesn't add any stiffness like fusible can.

Finally got these photos uploaded. I thought this outfit came out so cute even if my photos don't do it justice. :) I tried something new on the back. It's simple but I thought it added a nice amount of color to the back (the button is sewn on through the straps so no buttonholes were needed... gotta love that! LOL)

Lisa this is darling I love it !

and I am so tired I am cross-eyed. Obviously DD is asleep so no model. I finally figured out how to use my ruffler foot. I had a serious "Doh" moment. I was so upset my ruffler foot didn't come with instructions ... 2 days later (after spending much time at the machine trying to figure it out) .. .I look at the package and it tells you to go to a website where there is a video demonstration "DOH" ... anyway -- what fun ... now I'm planning something with lots of ruffles. Here is my tinkerbell set. I shortened a pillowcase dress to be more like a shirt. The pants are full length. I took a close up of the bows -- Tinkerbell ribbon TOO!

Aw so cute. I love the colors and the tink bows for the ties. Geez I leave for 2 days and now I am crossed eyed too from all the catch up. You guys have been busy :rotfl: !

Tina

It looks great. I did that halter and it is not easy! Super Duper!!!:thumbsup2

This is adorable! I think a white ruffle would be super cute on the pants and then you could wear them with all other colors -- not just pink.

That's really cute! I would do the ruffle at the bottom to finish it off, plus a hairbow, of course. I'm on a ruffling strike until I can find a Ruffler foot with a LOW, not slanted, shank. Evidently, the entire stat of Utah is sold out of them! I need to try online when I have the next batch of spare time! ;)

Silly kids keep wanting to be fed :rolleyes1

For those of you who have made this apron shirt, can you tell me how you attach the 2 together and what the front of the bottom piece looks like? thanks!
268403027.jpg

Hi...that's my apron top...LOL.. I make mine reversible, so I think it's easier...but this is how I make it..
I have the general shape of the front and back pieces cut out on posterboard, or use the pattern. Make sure you have 4 of these. This is the time to decorate them and plan how you want the top to look. Then I make my straps. For this top, I took one piece of black ribbon (grosgrain) and one piece of white. I wanted it to be different on each side. I sandwiched rickrack in there for some fun. Be sure your bobbin color is whatever color you have on the bottom and the uppper thread is whatever color is on the top. So I did black and white and I liked the seamless look.
Anyway, finish off your ties and position them where you'd like them. You will need 2 for each side, so 4 total. Go ahead and sew them down at this point. Then I sew one side to the straps, make sure your straps are pointed inward, put the other half right side down and make a sandwich out of it, leaving a small area open to turn it right side out. Then after I turn it right side out, I topstitch all the way around and also stitch closed the open area. Then you repeat on the other side, but the only difference, is in order to position the straps correctly, you will need to have the whole other side inside the first side, when you stitch around it. Then you have to pull the whole top through the opening that you leave, so this opening will be a little bit bigger...
I'm terrible at explaining things...I need to start taking pictures as I sew...so I can explain it a little better...

I've been very lazy about taking pictures lately...
but here is my dd's Minnie Safari for AK, and my around the world kids.you can't see it but each red and white dot panel has a different little kid..and ..You all saw the shoes that I showed earlier...
Please excuse Her Royal Magesty....I interrupted Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...and she proceeded to cry like a little baby...LOL... My response is always the same...

You have to say it in a sing-song voice or it doesn't have the same effect..

I love both of these outfits but I really like what you did with her capri's. It's a different touch to roll them up and sew the ruffle on like that. Thumbs up!!

Question for all of you experienced sewers out there.

I have a t-shirt that I purchased DD with a very nice applique on it. It is unfortunately too small for her, (it was clearanced, so not too big a deal) but I really want to incorporate it into a new custom for her. (It's very unique, at least to me it is;) )

The t-shirt is a fairly heavy weight material, not too much stretch to it, but it does have some.
Do I try to be very careful and cut as close to the applique as I can and fuse it to the new fabric, and then stitch it on?
Do I make a panel out of it, and can I surge it to a cotton without it puckering? (never tried surging two different types of material together)
Or do I take the panel and fuse the whole thing to a piece of cotton to make it more "stable" to use?

It's the only one I have, so I just can't practice and then scrap it if it doesn't turn out.

Any and all suggestions will be helpful!

Thanks!

Those are AWESOME!

I might have to CASE one of those!

I bought some capris at WM that have the cuff already sewn. I'd like to do something like this. Should I take the seam out to uncuff them, then sew the ruffle on? I guess I would have to so I can add the ricrac huh? Also, is it just a regular ruffle or something special?

I have been witness to some of the truly wonderful things that "strangers" have done for other people out of the goodness of their heart! :goodvibes And I would like to reciprocate this, even in just a little way.

I would love to send one pair of custom "boutique" style bows to a poster, or even "lurker" on this thread.

I missed your post (boo hoo!), but I just wanted to say....Tom, you never cease to amaze me!!!!:thumbsup2

Wow Elisa! These outfits are amazing. Your *lucky* daughters will be the best-dressed girls in the parks next week. GREAT WORK!!!

To do the ruffle I did it the same way as I usually do, just a little different..

roll up the pant leg and mark on the jeans, with a pin or tape or something, where you want the ruffle to end. So if you have a two inch ruffle, you will need to cut off the jeans at least 2 inches below the mark on the leg of the jeans. I sew my ruffles by making a tube and gathering it, but everyone does it different.
Turn the jeans so they're inside out, and sew the ruffle to the bottom facing up, then when the jeans are right side out, flip the ruffle around and topstitch to keep it facing up, then cover the stitching with some rickrack or trim...
My daughter calls rick-rack...Wickedy wack...:rotfl:

IMO the spray or stick glue would be a good idea at least until you've done a pair or two and feel comfortable with the process. It's nice to be able to arrange the patches first and then sew them down. I like to be able to have mine overlap so the begining/ending stitches on one patch are covered by the next one so I wouldn't glue the patch down completely - edge to edge. Fusible is definitely an option, too, if you aren't covering the whole leg. I do from hem to thigh front and back so thought fusible would make the jeans stiff.

Cute sets! I so understand about a DD with attitude when I'd ask her to try something on or wear it for a few photos. ;-) I finally bought a dress form so I don't have to feel like a "bad mommy" for dragging her away from whatever activity is going on... plus I don't have to worry if she'll get the clothes dirty/sticky/messy. LOL
