Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Well I bit the bullet and bought a pattern (New Look 6195) and material (the blue/red mickey). I am heading over to my mom's tomorrow to try my hand at making a halter dress. I am freaking out because DD is a mix of sizes going by measurements, so I know I am going to have fun.

Just a quick post - got this shirt done for DS today -- just a basic camp shirt - and it looks like it's big enough that he'll be able to wear it next year too! (gotta have an excuse to go next year!!!) I'll make an identical one for DH. Not sure what style I'll do for myself or the other gals going with us. (1 of 7 with this fabric done... sigh)

When DD saw it she said "is that mine" and so I just said "I don't know do you like it?"

Then she said "I love it, it's mine" and she tried to grab it and I said will you try it on and let me take a picture. She said yes.

THen she said she wouldn't take it off. I was going to pack it for our trip coming up. So she wore it out to dinner and then latter when she was getting her bath she asked me if it really was hers or was it for her cousin. :confused3 And she asked me what size it was. I told it is was really hers and it was a size six.

I thought it was so cute that she liked it so much she was worried about me giving it to her cousin. I am making a second one in size 3 to either sell or give to her cousin.

Was the camp shirt and apron top hard to do?? Did you use a pattern?? Those would both be perfect for my kids!!! Love them, they look great!!!

I started reading this thread when it first started and was only 5 pages. I immediately went to ebay and have purchased unique items from there and found an IRL friend who sews and I paid her to make a few things as well. Time has passed and I've peeked on the thread ocassionally and finally decided to bite the bullet and make something myself! So below is the first outfit I've ever sewn. Though it is not Disney, I have built up quite the Disney fabric stash and do have plans for how it will be used.

So a great big thank you goes out to all of you for advice I've read and pictures I've seen as you all have inspired me  I'm currently on page 122 of this thread and desperately trying to catch up to the end, lol.

Looks like the Toledo area Hancock Fabrics meet will be on Monday,
August 20th. One member will not be able to make that date, so I will try to set up a different meet for you, I am sorry! :sad1:

Dena[/QUOTE]

Yeah! I'm in! I was really worried a few pages ago because I saw that we needed to PM Dena about dates and I haven't been home since Wed. morning!! I just got back from camping a couple of hours ago and am still reading....I'm still on page 375. Gotta get caught up before I go to bed!! Thanks Dena for taking care of this!!!

I absolutely love this  I want one in my size :rotfl2: I may have to add this to my long list of "to be sewn"

Well I found some. Here is DH, DS and me at the pirate party.

See now I have to show off mine!!! Meet Mr. t-beri circa MNSSHP 2006

This was our first very rushed attempt. He forgot his pants at home and had to wear his jeans-He was TICKED!!Our first year at MNSSHP I was Elizabeth in her night gown and robe-it was cool. He made me this super exagerated medallion ( I wanted everyone to realize who I was!) out of Fimo clay ad painted it gold and distressed it it was AWESOME- but I don't have a good pic of me here. I'll dig one up later.

Was the camp shirt and apron top hard to do?? Did you use a pattern?? Those would both be perfect for my kids!!! Love them, they look great!!!

For the camp shirt I used Simplicity 5581. It's my third collar, so it's getting easier. The rest of the shirt isn't bad at all. Just that dog gone collar...

Ok, let's see if I can remember what I wanted to say about each of these quotes!!!
I had a lot of fun decorating the computer/play room (now the computer/sewing room - poor DS!).
If you'd like to see the whole room (before I evicted the toys) you can see pics in THIS POST
(don't want to clutter up the sewing thread with home decorating...LOL)

Thanks everyone - it was fun making that set. (now to figure out this applique satin stich deal!) And, we think DS is pretty darn cute, but we're not exactly objective on the subject!
Now if I can just get some buttons, I will post the other 2 shirts I've made him so far...

OOH, I like that mirror! We have a whole basement that really needs some decorating. Maybe I should clean it, and Disneyfie it!

I think someone awhile back was looking for a PINK PRINCESSES TOILE. There's some on ebay right now.

I asked nanascustomcreations where she got hers, it it like that? I will have to go look! thanks!

Well, I was trying to be a good wife, you know DH is the jealous type. Here is what I bought last week and and DH was none too pleased. A girl can dream, right?

misc303.jpg

:rotfl: oh, that is something!

Here's a few outfits I wanted to show off. First this is a pair of jeans that jessica made for me. She posted them a while back and now I thought I'd have dd model them. They are a little big because I wanted to make sure they still fit well in December. Jessica does phenomenal work Thank you!!!

100_5905.jpg

Next is my version of the friends around the world outift. Not as detailed as Dena's but good for a beginner. My goal is for dd to be able to wear it as a dress if it's warm in December and with jeans if it's cold. I'm going to make jeans with a red ruffle around the base for them but haven't yet. I also haven't done the buttons yet. I'm still afraid of them :rolleyes1

100_5908.jpg

Wow, it's all adorable!

I am so jealous!!!!!!!!! I  Jack Sparrow, though funny enough I do not like Johnny Depp!

Hmm, maybe I should rethink my opinion of you. How can you NOT like Johnny Depp! :confused3

LOL! I like Johnny Depp, but don't find him attractive as Jack Sparrow!

There you go, that's the voice of reason for you!

I want to make DD these shoes to go with her Pirate costume.

shoes.jpg

I found the shoes and the ribbon, but I don't know what kind of paint to use. I bought some "dimensional" fabric paint that comes on a tube you squeeze out, but I think I need more "precision". Any suggestions on what type of paint to use? Do you think she used a brush to put it on?

Thanks!
I have a how to paint your shoes tutorial on the bookmarks page. Not sure if it would give you any other ideas though, it's mainly for leather shoes.

I started reading this thread when it first started and was only 5 pages. For anyone interested, the corset, ribbon top was made from directions I bought on youcanmakethis.com (Dainty Designs is the creator) and the shorts are Simplicity pattern 3743.
I've been eyeing that pattern! You did a great job! And, you have an adorable daughter!

Ok, I've been watching and haven't seen her....oh NANA....where are you? Come out come out whereever you are! Did she leave because her post got chopped by a mod?????

I was wondering the same thing. Come back and post pictures!

Ummm...SHARE grandkids.....hmmmm, never considered that. Ok, I guess I'll have to tell the girls another thing to look for in picking out a husband is that either his mom is a great lady that I can get along with or that she live far far far away so she never comes to see MY grandbabies, lol.

I can't tell you how much I look forward to the time when I can spoil a grandchild rotten, absolutely spoiled rotten....something I find myself having to restrain myself and not doing tooooooo much with the girls, lest they become brats that I don't want to spend 24/7 with, lol. Nah, just kidding....my girls turned out to be wonderful ladies despite me!

Oh, yes, you MUST think of the OTHER grandparents! Great people, or people who are FAR away, that's what you want. Or, people who don't pay any attention, that wouldn't be too bad either! Your kids are your own, but you have to share those grandkids! :rotfl:

I am thinking about "winging" a stripwork dress. Are the strips rectangles or are they shorter in width at the waist and wider at the hem? It is hard to tell from the finished product pictures because of the gathering...

There is a stripwork skirt tutorial on the bookmarks site. But, when I made one, I cut the strips into rectangles the same width all the way down.

Here is a picture of my dd wearing the shirt I made. She is wearing it with a black skirt but I am making her black capries which I think will look better since the skirt has ruffles too and I think it is too much. What do you think?

IMG_0864.jpg

It looks adorable on her! I think it would look best with the capris too, but this looks good as well. Great job!
Ok, I've made serious progress on my Donald overalls. I'm thinking I'll add "DONALD" to the back along with blue polkadot pockets? I'm not sure, but I do know that it will be a while before I attempt another pair of overalls!! And I have two more to make before December!! I had to do most of it by hand since my machine gave me fits. The hardest part was stitching down the "applique". It's actually an embroidered scrapbook sticker and it was a HUGE pain (literally!) to stitch down by hand.

Any idea what this could be? I put in a heavy duty needle but everytime I tried to sew, the thread would skip. Make sense? It just wouldn't sew an even seam, then it would come unthreaded. Any tips would be appreciated!

DonaldDuck1.jpg

And here are some bows that I've made for a friend. She gets her ribbon from ribbonspot.com and it's really nice quality stuff. I've become pretty handy with the bows and I'm loving it!! The Ariel one is for dd2 to wear with her Sebastian/Flounder pillowcase dress.
ArielBow.jpg

Here's a halter dress that dd2 had in her drawer. All I added was the gingham minnie and green bow. I love this! I used an old-fashioned method of appliquing which involves a dryer sheet! This was stitched on by hand, this was done before I learned how to use my machine.
MinnieDenimHalter.jpg

And lastly is a denim skirt and pillowcase top that I made for dd8. But here's the bummer, the top is too small and the skirt is too big :sad2: I made these while she was at her Granny's and thought I would surprise her when she got home. I guess I've learned my lesson about measuring! Don't know what to do now! I guess dd2 can wear the "dress" and I can save the skirt for dd8 to grow into. I have some of the material left over so I can make her a bigger top to grow into along with the skirt. The "appliques" are just on w/Heat'n'Bond but not stitched. I'm not fooling with denim stitching for quite a while!
SarahsDenimset.jpg

Wow, good work!
Don't wipe you fingers on your dishtowells or papertowells because all you will wind up with is a finger full of glue and lint from the towell. :rotfl:

I could just see it now! That would definitely be me! Or else, I'd be walking around with the towel stuck to my hand! :rotfl: Dh wouldn't think anything of it, he'd probably just figure that I'd sewn my finger again and a bandaid wouldn't do the job!

You two are making me laugh! I can really see myself doing that! :rotfl:

I added some bling bling to my AK Mickey shirt. I also made a belt to match. And when I say I made a belt, I just cut a strip of the fabric and put it through the belt loops. It's really generic, but if you don't look too close it looks cute!

P7130024.jpg

I love that! Perfect!

Awww!!! That is a cute top, a cute daughter, and a cute story! That is so sweet that she was worried it wasn't really hers! I love the part about her asking you what size it was! :)

Ok, I had this fabric
l_bc3e475068bf8b687cd15e5cceabf7e3.jpg

Which I was going to make a dress for DD2 w/. I bought a coordinating stripe for a little bottom ruffle. Cute.

Then I changed my mind (instantaneously) and decided to make the cutie fabric the bodice of a stripwork twirly top. Not taking into consideration that the pattern of the fabric is 2" squares and DD is 2 and her bodice is ITTY BITTY. I haven't made anything for her yet, to date my sewing hasbeen adult sizes only.

So I have now cut out the strips (decided on 8 4" strips instead of 16 2" strips to try to save the cuties fabric. here are the coordinating fabrics
l_d90601de91863f4b2a80ffbe451f515f.jpg

I have tons of fabric left over I always buy more than I need. and everything is cut (the bodice is in the lavender, I decided the print was too big-though I don't love it!!) and I'm considering scrapping the whole project and going back to formula.

Of course it's 12am and I could just be losing my mind. I have a one track mind and when something throws a kink in the gears I tend to get bent out of shape and freak out...DH is usually here to help me see more clearly but he's not feeling well and has been in a pissy mood all day-NOT HELPING!!! So please someone tell me I'm being neurotic, it'll be okay, to sew the damn thing together and be done with it!

It will be OK!
As a side note - the shirt I made for DS today has 1 1/2inch squares on it (posted further up on this page). He's 2 and in the 25% for height and weight- so not a big 2. The cuties might work just fine for the bodice!

Hey T:

You're being neurotic, it'll be okay, to sew the damn thing together and be done with it!!!!!

It looks like it will be cute, cannot wait to see it!

Maureen I think the reason your machine is messing up is because of the adhesive on the applique...the needle will get gunked up and not sew straight. Your overalls are adorable, though, good job! :thumbsup2

The boys camp shirt and the mickey dots apron top both turned out really cute, I love the added bling to the safari tank too! Great work ladies!

You are neurotic, just sew the thing together allready! Then, takes lots of pictures and let us see how it turned out!

The leopard shirt does look like the girls are still in it. :lmao: It's because I had to stretch the shirt out before ironing on the ribbon otherwise the girls won't fit! So now the girls are permanently there. It's like one of those Wal-Mart tanks with the built in bra cups. :rotfl:

Ok, I may be too late here, but what if you went ahead as planned with the lavender bodice and cut a square with her favorite character out of the cutie fabric and appliquéd it onto the bodice? Or a series of 3? Depending on how much room you have on there, of course. I love the fabrics you have there - very nicely coordinated! Good luck - I'm sure it will be super cute no matter what you decide to do!

I finished Ds's Buzz set tonight - took a lot longer than I thought it would for some reason. I'll have to try it on him and post pics tomorrow!

Ok t, you're being neurotic! Although, not unlike I would be! For what it's worth here's my opinion... sew it together like you've planned. Then, since you have plenty leftover make her something else with the cuties fabric like a pillowcase dress or something.

OR... lay the lavendar bodice over the cuties fabric to see exactly how many of the squares you'd be able to see on it and decide from that whether to use it for the bodice or not.

OR... like glorib said, applique (or just use Heat'n'Bond Ultra for no-sew) some of the squares onto the lavendar bodice.

Whatever you decide, please don't throw out all of that fabric!!! I'm so frugal that it would just make me sick!

Also, Teresa I apologize for not liking Johnny Depp. I've really tried especially since POTC, and I can at least now tolerate to watch him. But, I will leave him alone for his real fans! Now Jack Sparrow is another story, I love the bad guys!!

Here is what I finished today.

abbymouseshirt.jpg

I love this. This is almost exactly what I had in mind to do for my DD. However, the Mickey/Minnie circles fabric is a little thicker than most of the other cottons I've found and I haven't been able to find something that's a similar weight to it except the "coordinating" stripes/dots (which I don't care for.) Were you able to find something that was a similar weight, or are your fabrics different weights. If different, is there any problem with it laying funny? It *looks* great, but I wasn't sure how that would work.
