When we went to Epcot a few years ago, they had areas set up where children could make masks. When you went to each country they would add a "decoration" and stamp to each mask. This was the first time we did the whole World Showcase because the kids wanted to complete the masks. Does the "World Showcase" still have something like this? Is it still the masks or something different?
thanks

We were there this past Thanksgiving and they were doing the masks in the World Showcase then. My dd loved finding the stations in all the different countries.

Yes, they still do this! My daughter just completed her mask last month. She didn't decide until half way through that she wanted to start the mask, so we had to backtrack to complete it.

Look for the KIDCOT station in each country. They will have the table set up with markers for them to decorate. They will stamp their mask and attach a charm to the mask. When they are complete they will get a little prize at the end. It's fun.

You can also purchase a passport and then have them stamped in each country as well.

They still do this...last time, dd and sis opted for a lanyard type thing instead though. Be sure to check out the stations in the Land, Living Seas, Test Track too. :thumbsup2

We made the masks 3 yrs ago and had a blast doing so. The kids decided to do it this past Feb but I had my doubts. Their memories are pretty good and I thought they might tire of the masks quickly if the diecuts were the same. Sure enough - still the same as last time.

Thankfully, I had their Epcot passports at the ready and they loved getting them stamped. (I don't let them carry their own US passports when we travel so this was fun for them).

It seemed "cooler" for DS to hand over his passports and strike up a short conversation with the countries' reps vs. making a mask again.

Just be warned...Sharpie is now the Kidcot sponsor! What was Disney thinking??? Kids and permanent markers, not a good thing! Even the CMs commented how difficult it was to keep the tables clean now.

Be sure to buy one of the Passports - it has stickers for each country and there's a spot for the cast member to sign it on the country's page - and if their language isn't English, they will write something in the native language and sometimes will ask the child's name and write it out! It's VERY cool. I think the passport is about $10 and very well worth it. You can get them at any of the gift shops and the little kiosks that are outside.

Beware - if your kids do this one time, they may insist on doing it every time you go to EPCOT. It could be the only thing you get to do while at EPCOT. Way better than rides, shopping, eating, characters. Let's all sit around and color like we do at home for free.

However, it is a fun distraction. Not much that young kids like to do in WS, so you could offer to watch the kids while your DH/DW shops. Or, you could sit and enjoy each of your "Beers around the world".

The CMs really seem to enjoy working kidcots, and they do rotate through the shops and attractions so it's not kids all day long. Ask the CM's to write the kids names in different languages, or teach the kids to say hello in each country.

Canada is right outside the exit to O Canada now. I liked UK because the characters come right in the shop by the kidcot. France has a little shop to look around in, or you can get a pastry. Japan has a film by John Lassiter about wind-up tin toys. AA has a shop to look at and funnel cakes next door. ...(sorry, falling asleep between Italy and Norway)...
Mexico has a "send a postcard from mexico" touchscreen kiosk right by the kidcot.

We love the Kidcot Fun Stops!!!!

My DD and I have a blast racing around the countries in an attempt to get her mask all finished. We laugh and laugh and laugh as we are doing this - great memories for us!!! :goodvibes

Anyone have pictures of the masks (or lanyards) they can post?

Is this something an 8 year old would enjoy, or is it geared towards younger kids? (Yes, she's very creative and into crafty things).

My DD who is 14 did this last time. If you complete it, they will give you a fairly small poster to take home.

I would say the 8 year old craft lover would thoroughly enjoy it! I do have to say, my DD looked a little out of place with all the little ones. But she was pretty good about helping out a little one who needed it, and if it was busy, she just drew a couple of things at that station and moved on.

my dd who is 14 has been doing the masks ever since i remember. ahe insists that it is not disney without her mask. we now have about 20 lying around the house! we enjoy them!
