I know I read about this somewhere, but can't recall where-

Have you ever written a "contract" of sorts for your kids to sign before you leave for your trip? You know, something fun, NOT intended to be mean in any way- but something like a Pirate theme saying they will "stick to the code" of no whining, no fighting, and happiness all around?
;)

If so- would you be willing to share your ideas?

Thanks!

Jo

We never used a contract, per se, but when they were little and not understanding the money concept, we listed the amount they each had available to spend and each time they bought something, we'd do the math over our meal and take time to explain what was happening. That way, no one overspent, and they totally understood that if they bought something for bookoo bucks on the first day--maybe not much left for the rest of the stay:idea: It also helped in pre-planning and follow-through on chores, because they knew they were collecting money for the upcoming Disney Trip. I'm proud to say that easy exercises like that helped our DS and DD appreciate the value of the dollar and they are very wise shoppers :wizard:

Here is the contract that we used with our DDs last year. They loved it! (I can't remember where I got this but thanks to the person who wrote it.)

Princess-in-Training Royal Rules of Behavior

In exchange for being swept away on magical, fairy-tale adventure with my family, I agree to behave in a manner befitting a Princes-in-Training.

1. Princesses don’t whine or pout. I won’t whine or pout while at Walt Disney World. Anyone caught whining will be forced to pay the Fairy Godmother $1.00

2. I will follow the plan my very smart Fairy Godmother has set forth for me. Wishes and dreams cannot come true without following the plan and the royal rules.

3. I agree not to wear myself out speaking with loyal subjects, visiting their homes. I will notify my Fairy Godmother or Prince Charming when I become tired. Because I get to stay in this enchanted land for 7 days, I know my Royal Court will allow me to have a delightful time, if I am rested.

4. In order to keep my musical singing voice in tune and a pleasant disposition, I promise to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and cool in the brilliant Florida sun and apply plenty of sunscreen, according to my Fairy Godmother’s wishes.

5. I agree to be ready to step into my Royal Coach (at the bus stop) when my Fairy Godmother or Prince Charming says it’s time to go.

6. The Princess-in-Training and her Royal Court will follow the plan, follow the plan, follow the plan....

7. A Princess must be able to find her way out of any kingdom or forest. While the chance of being separated is very small, I will wear an identification (ID) bracelet engraved with Mom & Dad’s cell phone numbers whenever I leave the resort room. If we are separated, I will go to the nearest Mommy with children or Cast Member and ask them to call. At no time whatsoever will I remove a bracelet from my ankle other than in the safety of my royal suite (resort room).

8. Princesses-in-training walking long distances must wear sensible shoes. Even though a Princess loves to wear glittery, shiny shoes to the ball, she knows that those shoes will make her feet hurt walking long distances. Water shoes can be worn at the resort pool. Otherwise this princess-in-training will wear comfortable shoes with sock or sandals that she can walk five miles per day without creating blisters.

9. For maximum time to explore the kingdoms and their lands, Royal Decree states, when one member of the Court goes to the bathroom, all members of the Royal Party must go (to the bathroom, that is).

10. I will not irritate my Fairy Godmother or Prince Charming.

11. A “One Foot Rule” shall be in effect whenever a Princess leaves her Royal Resort Suite. All persons in the Royal Party shall keep one foot on the ground at all times. The only exception is when someone enters a vehicle or ride. When this rule is broken, the offender must hold Fairy Godmother’s hand until she says it’s okay to let go.

12. Those who do not abide by the Royal Behavior for Princesses-in-Training Rules will be forced to return to a dark, cool, dungeon (resort room) for the remainder of the day.

I hereby agree to abide by the Princess in Training Royal Rules of Behavior

HTH! If you are looking for something for boys, at least this will give you a rough idea of what to include.

Thank you so much!

Diznee-
We too usually give our children a set $ amount for the entire vacation and they know that once they use it- that's it-
I agree that it helps take some of the pressure off of the situation when everything around them is so shiny and pretty!:goodvibes

Bonkers-
The Princess one is perfect for my DD! I will print it out.

So cute.

Jo

oh thanks so much you just gave me a great idea!!
I have 4 boys so hubby and i just decided that every morning we will give ea one of them $10 and that is there spending for the day for trinkets and such, they save money for a couple days and go shopping DTD if they want to.

But for each time we have to break up an arguement, teasing, any talking back, we will be paid $1. If we have to tell them twice to go to bed we will again get another $. We are not going to the parks the first 2 days so they will have time to practice and start saving a little money.

I told them if they see something for $13, well they better save their money and the last day we are going to DTD.

Thanks I hope this saves me from picking, arguing and talking back. ;)
