We're planning to re-do both kids rooms this spring.

DD11 is planning some form of purple/blue walls and bedspread, etc. We're thinking about painting the walls one color and sponge painting another color over them....plans haven't quite gelled yet.

DS8 was thinking dinosaurs but we talked him out of it because we want this room to be his "final" room so it needs to last thru the teenage years and I didn't think dinosaurs would cut it for a teen. Anyway, he's now decided on some form of "outer space" but we're looking for ideas.

We don't want to over decorate either room but we sort of wanted them to be "cool".

OK, now to the point of my post. Does anybody know any websites we could go to to look at different rooms and get decorating ideas? Or, does anyone(I know you DISsers are creative) have any pictures they could post to give us some ideas?

Thanks!

I don't know of any websites...BUT, if your son is thinking of outerspace and you want it to last though his teens, a good idea might be to paint the room a dark blue and get some of those glow in the dark stars and put them on the ceiling...they look really cool at night and will give him that outerspace feel without going too overboard. You can then spend money on maybe some furniture or bedding that matches the theme, because most likely, that stuff wont last through teen-hood anyways!
With KRU (the store I work at :( ) going out of business, I'm not sure how much longer they'll have it (as bedding and whatnot are ussually limited time runs anyways) But here is a link to Toys R Us where you can find some nice Kids R Us childrens room stuff-they do have a design called Ships N' Space (I believe thats the name, I could be wrong!) They have chairs, a garbage pail shaped like a rocket, a rug, bedding, etc...(that is, if they carry everything the store does!) If you have a Kids R Us near by, you might want to run in before they close and see if they have anything left--theyre currently running a sale on all bedding-however it varies by store. I can't guarantee they'll have any of the items though, as I stated before, since they are all closing for good! Hope this helps!!!

Here are a few pictures of DS 4's Buzz Lightyear room... I know it's over the top but hey you only live once right?

Preshi....Is that a disney paint color? Don't think we want to go that overboard....also it wouldn't last 'til his teens

manda1219...thanks for the link...on my way to check it out now. We already have the stars on the ceiling that glow in the dark but he rarely remembers they're there because usually he's in the living room until bedtime and the light is off in his room so they're not charged. We reaquainted him with them tonight and the light is currently on "charging" the stars. Your thoughts are exactly what we were thinking. Dark blue walls, possibly a space type border, matching bedspread and accessories. He doesn't need any bedroom furniture except maybe a desk. We're just looking for ideas on what others have done, we're not too creative over here.

Anybody else?

I have been down with a herniated disc for two months, so I have been watching a lot of those shows like Trading Spaces, Clean Sweep, etc!

We were having some troubles getting a design for DS's room (he is 13 now and have been in this home for almost 3 years; he still has white walls!). I saw on a decorating show (I think it may have been Decorating Cents) where they painted one wall a very dark purple and then they splatter painted it with glow in the dark colors like neon pink, green, yellows and they hung a black light in the center. The other walls were not too dark but complimented the color. We were going to do DS's with a midnight blue.

Then, we saw an episode with albums on the walls (OMG! HILDI STRIKES AGAIN!), but we thought of doing the same on one wall with CD's. So, DS loved that idea and we have been collecting those free CD's at the stores to cover one wall in his room. I saw on a While You Were Out where they melted at a low heat albums over coffee cans to make lights on the walls. It looked really cool; I plan on doing that, also on that one wall to compliment the CD's.

Here is a link to a DIY search for kids rooms; I did not go through it, so I don't know how much it will help. I think a sports theme would do well for your son that will last through his teens if he is a sports kid. My DS is a computer junkie, so the CD's will work wonderful for him. Check it out: http://web.hgtv.com/hgtv/web/search...String=kids+rooms&GoSearch.x=22&GoSearch.y=12

Watch those home improvement shows; I have gotten so many cool ideas. Clean Sweep does less wild renovations compared to Trading Spaces. Good luck!

Decorate your kid's bedroom is the first think. There are many points you should need to remember when you are decorating your kid's bedroom. First of all you should need to know about the taste of your son. what he likes what he want in his bedroom then after this with him start to decorate his bedroom. Bedroom Furniture Ideas For Kids are listed here http://bedroomify.com/bedroom-furniture-kids from experts. I also decorate my kid's bedroom after reading the tips and ideas from here and decorate my boy's bedroom. if you do that your son will get closer with you and he feel more comfortable with you.

Seeing that OP's daughter is now 24, and the son is 21 -- I'm going out on a limb saying she no longer needs any kid room advice.

Oh dear, my oldest son is at college, I never decorated his room, no wonder he went away! Is it to late to decorate ds14's room using that website? Maybe we can eliminate some of his therapy sessions, and we can grow closer?

Have you looked at wall clings? Home Depot has them in Lots of different themes. They may have dinosaurs. With those you could paint a color that'll stand the test of time and then add the clings. Once the dinosaur phase has past just peel them off.

My dd17 has the same bright blue walls she's had since she was 8. She still loves the color. Decorations have changed over time.

You are so right!

This thread is 13 years old! One child has graduated college and gotten marriedand bought a house and the other is a junior in college.

The funny thing is....we actually ARE redocating DD's room now. Turning it into a guest room as she no longer lives here.

Thanks for the memories!
