kid's attire in the dining room

I've convinced my DS (8) that he must dress up on formal and semi-formal nights, but what about the more casual nights in the dining rooms? Is it ok for kids to wear shorts and t-shirts or do they need to be a more dressy, like dockers and polos? He really hates dressing up and lives in jeans and t's and I want him to be comfortable, it's his vacation too. What do your kids generally wear or have you seen in the dining rooms? Thanks for your help!

They ask you not to wear shorts or jeans to the dinning room. We made our group of kids wear pants and shirts. They would of perferred shorts. But they lived threw it and we told them thats what the rules were. They still had a great vacation, and they never mention how dressing for dinner was a big deal after they knew they had to.

Our three boys did wear suits on formal and semi-formal nights and wore Docker slacks and polo or sport shirt on casual nights. We usually excused them from the table to go back to the room to change into shorts and t-shirts. This is what our family does. As the previous poster said Disney does request that you don't wear shorts or jeans to the dining room but you will see all sorts of different ideas of what is "casual." HTH

We did the same as above for our boys who were 5, 7 and9 at the time. The pants they wore on the casual nights were khaki, but more on the lines of the cargo style so they were a little baggy (as in comfortable, not like some teens you see!) and a collared golf type shirt. My kids didn't have a problem at all about the clothing, and actually chose to keep them on and go to the kids clubs at night rather than changing.

We are not a dressy family by the way, so my boys have lived in "play" type clothes all their life, but they were told that is the way you dress on a cruise, and they just went with it.
