Kids appetizers with MYW dining?

We are going in Sept. with the free dining plan, so I've been reading up on it here. I've remember reading somewhere that some restaurants had kids appetizers for the plan. Also, I read that some restaurants don't let kids get appetizers and some have them order off the adult appetizer menu. Just wondering what anyone has experienced at the following restaurants:
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Sci-FI
50's prime time
Alfredo's

Thnks! :)

I wonder the same thing, in general...

It seems to me that a lot of places are updating/changing their menus and adding a kiddie app. as part of the change. Some list a kid dessert now too... I wonder if this is a sign of things to come. If so we will pay cash for the kids and use saved credits for extra meals.

I don't know for sure about all your specific restaurants, but kids are allowed an appetizer, entree, and dessert at all TS restaurants. Some places do offer special kids' appetizers (Sci Fi is one that comes to mind), but many don't. Kids can order off the adult appetizer menus at those restaurants. The only TS places that wouldn't let kids do that would be buffet and all-you-can-eat family style restaurants with a set menu (like 'Ohana or LTT for dinner).

Sci-FI had a fruit and cheese plate as one of the choices for kids appetizers. Not sure about any of the other places on your list, though.

Some places specifically told us that DS would not be able to order an appetizer off the adult menu which really upset my DH since it stated that in the dining plan. Coral Reef and LeCellier allowed it. CRT did not. LeCellier had a kids dessert list that he had to order from. Coral Reef allowed him to get the adult dessert. We ended up paying for his CRT meal because it was only $4.99 for his meal and if he couldn't get an appetizer, why waste a credit on it? We never saw any kids appetizers at the places we went to.

DD4 got adult appetizers when childs were not availlable, the Contemporary Steakhouse had a Kids salad so she got that. At 50's Primetime she got an adult appetizer, servers actually told us to just pick something we wanted to try because it was already included!!

Bumping. Does anyone know the official "policy" on this? It appears some restaurants allow it, while others do not. :confused3

I don't know the official policy but I'm seeing a trend....everything seems to be up to each restaurant and/or cm.

on another thread, i just read that whispering canyon doesn't offer childrens appetizers, and they won't allow kids to order an adult appetizer. i think that is BS, but that is JMHO! anyway, this info. came from someone who works at WCC.

The trend seems to be a little common sense back in Disney's direction. The brochure says children must order off the children's menu if available. It doesn't say they can order appetizer off the adult menu. Some restaurants are adding a child's appetizer as a compromise.

The children's meal plan cost $10/day. Many of the adult appetizers cost that. People are asking why they should be "wasting" a TS credit for a $5 meal. That's what you paid for. The credit cost $10, the snack is worth around $2.50. That leaves $7.50 for a CS and TS meal with tip and tax. Sounds like a good deal even if you order child's meals for both TS and CS.

It's nice that we seem to be able to "bank" child's credits for adult meals but Disney has every right take steps to ensure more guests are using the plan as intended.

It sounds like the restaurant and server has some flexibility. Too many posters are looking to make the exception a rule.

I think Disney can resolve this issue by doing one of two things. This way nothing can be left to "interpretation":

1) Add appetizers to the kids menu - which they seem to be doing :Pinkbounc

or

2) Change the MYW Dining Policy brochure to specifically state that appetizers for kids are not included, unless available on the kids menu.

My "interpretation" of the dining document is that a TS includes an appetizer, entree and dessert for everyone.

JMHO

you said that very well. i'm not looking to us the plan in any way that it wasn't "intended" to be used. all i was saying is that if a TS meal included appetizer and dessert, then children should be allowed an appetizer and dessert! otherwise, they need to change the wording, and make sure that all restaurants follow the same guidelines. it's almost funny how much confusion there seems to be about what is and isn't allowed.

Yes I think they should definately add this to the brochure so there is no confusion. Goodness it actually might be a good thing if could only order 2 appetizers instead of 4 :rotfl:
