Kids and Space Mountain

On our next trip, in Oct., my dd (6) would like to try Space Mountain. I am a little hesitant about her riding this one because it is in the dark, and this factor has previously been a problem for her. I checked the restrictions on the website and it stated that all children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Does this mean she rides with me, in my lap? I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

She will have to sit alone, although you can sit behind her. I would talk to her and make sure she is comfortable about the dark going in, rather than have her freak out while inside and you can't really get to her. JMHO.
When my DD was 6 she and I rode together. I sat behind her the whole time telling her she was safe, etc. In the end, I was terrified and she loved it, so who knows what to expect! :confused3

The way I remember is that your child will ride in the same "car" with you but in a seatbelt of their own. I think three people can fit into a '''car". The ride itself is that like an old "cat and mouse" ride. There are no upside downs just dark and a lot of curves. My child and I were fortunate to see the inside of the mountain with the lights on. This made my child realize that there were no upside downs in it. My dd now loves the ride more than I do :goodvibes .

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly what I am afraid of. I think she would end up loving it, however, I'll probably have a heart attack worrying about her!

No, she won't be in your lap, but will be seated in the same car - in front of you or behind you, whichever makes you and her more comfortable. If she's in front of you, have her keep her hands on the bar and you can put your hand on her shoulder if you feel like she needs it.

If she knows the ride is in the dark and still wants to try, I say go for it. If she hates it, she hates it and you don't have to go again, but if she likes it.... well, COOL!

My DD was 7 when she tried SM for the first time and she just loved it. The dark issue made her a little nervous (she seems to like to work herself up a bit before trying new things.....), but I reassured her that A - I would be right there and B - Mickey Mouse made his rides safe and wouldn't want her to get hurt. :) She loved it and now insists on doing the dark rollercoaster at the Six Flags near us!

We just got back and my 5yr. dd rode in the middle of my dh and I. My dh sat behind her hanging on to her shoulders. The next 5 times she rode it, she rode in the front row with her hands up the whole time. She also loved Tower of Terror this yr!!
Have fun!

You can also scope it out on TTA - that tram around tomorrowland. DS5 doesn't like dark rides so we didn't do SM but DD3.5 went on TOT several times. Totally depends on the kid.

Good luck!

Also remember that you can easily go through the queue (using FastPass or stand by) and you will be able to see the entire inside way before you board the cars. If your daughter shows any apprehension at all, even one little bit, bail out. Just tell the boarding Cast Member that you want to leave. So your daughter makes the decision herself right up to the last minute.

My DS6 has been loving Space Mountain since he was 5. He has always been a thrill-seeker. OTOH, DD(almost 9) would never consider riding it. She's just not into thrill rides at all. Just depends on the kid, I guess.
