Kitty34 posted about her teenage and older kids staying up late on their WDW trip. This made me think of a behavior of my college age kids who don't even go out until 10:30 or 11:00pm. Hey, I was young once too, but even when I was 19 or 20 I would usually go out by 8 or 9pm. I could count on one hand the number of times I stayed out past 1 or 2am. Mine come home at 4 or 5am some nights(BTW, they are both 21). I just don't get the attraction.

Trust me, I'm 19, and I HATE this. At college no one leaves the dorm until about 10ish, but that's because bars/clubs/parties don't really get going until then anyway. Same thing with the bars and clubs at home.

What I HATE though is when my friends and I want to see a movie or grab some food and they insist that we still go out at 10:30. Drives me crazy, by the time we're ready to leave I'm exhausted.

At Disney I'm the opposite though (unless I"m with my friends). I go to bed early with my family and wake up early. I'm absolutely exhausted after a day at the parks, as soon as I'm in the room I collapse in bed.

Living in a city where the bars close at 4 AM, it was very normal to go out at midnight when I was young and could handle it. I remember walking in the house when my Dad was getting up. ;)

Evil Princess ~ That's my daughter's (20) complaint at college - she rarely goes out because everyone goes out so late. She has always needed more sleep than most and she carries very heavy credit loads while at school. I think I could count on one hand the number of times she has stayed out past midnight. Now DS15 on the OTHER hand .......... He could easily stay out all night and sleep all day! But he didn't at WDW - he got up and got going. :teeth:

I HATED napping at home. When college came I re-discovered the fine art of taking naps.

I stayed up til four nights when I had an 8:00 am class, woke up at 7, had breakfast, went to my classes, slept til 5, showered, ate dinner, did work, than socialized. Vicious cycle, but hey, that's college. I'll never get the opportunity to do things like that again, so might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

Luckilly I only had one 8:00 class last semester, but I had friends with almost all eights and they didn't stay up as late. It's all about time management in college, luckilly I was able to make it work. It really did take a toll on my body though, and hopefully this year I won't do the same thing.

Good for your daughter, I'm sure she's alot healthier at school than I am, she's getting a full nights sleep!

That's so strange! Willy and I were just talking about this same exact subject last night! We have a weird mental telepathy thing happening with you Micca!

Yup, we went out at 9 or 10 o'clock and my stepdaughters did the same thing, though there is/was a difference. I wanted to go to the bars and whoop it up, they want to go bowling or hanging out at someone's house, they aren't bar hoppers at all. Why would you want to go hang at someone's house that late at night? :confused3 :p

The last time I went on vacation with them was to WDW and at 11pm at night, at the CBR, after they showered, they got all dressed up in their shorts and tee shirts and sneaks again. As I was climbing into bed I said, "What are you guys doing?" The youngest answered, "We're going to go jogging around the lake." They just spent the entire day at EPCOT! Now ... if they were going to go over to the pool or jacuzzi and meet some guys and hang and party or something I might have understood, but jogging!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how I'll survive in college because I don't stay up all night. I just don't understand it, and I physically can't. When I go out with friends I'm home just after 10. That's just me I guess. The only nights I'm out "late" are nights when there are football games, since those just can't be missed. And even then the latest I've ever gotten gotten home was a little after 11. I don't understand why everyone thinks it's so great to be out until the sun rises again.

Cause that's when things get started, at 10 or 11. I've never been to a party or bar that started at 8:00. Sometimes at school you really have no choice if you want to go out with your friends. I'm not a fan all the time either, and some times it gets tiring, but it CAN be fun.

Wow, I know she couldn't have handled that! But like you said, you won't have that opportunity again. I do get concerned that she doesn't interact as much socially, but she's a big girl and makes her own decisions - plus she is very serious about her academic work. But I would like to see her "play" a little more:teeth: !

monarchsfan16 ~ you may find a group of friends who feel the way you do and don't want to be out late. My daughter just loves college - she considers that to be her "home" :sad1: (That's ok, I can deal, I know she has to leave the nest sometime :p , I just haven't figured out where 20 years went!)

Yeah, I understand that, and everyone is different. I don't want you to think I'm a party girl, I kept my gpa over 3.0 and kept my scholarship (VERY important). I just need a good balance of schoolwork and fun in order to keep me sane, lol.

Now that it's summer my two hs sons frequently don't go out til 9 or 10. Then they come in at 1am. My college dd didn't go to the movies til 10 last night. Sometimes it seems odd to me. The hardest part is that as a mom, I usually don't go to sleep til everybody's in the house for the night. I actually encourage my dd to stay at a friends house for the night if she's going to be there late. I'd rather then have her driving when she's tired.
