Kids and getting lost

I thought that I would share my idea, I love it and use it all the time.

I take my son to the Department of Motor Vehicles and get him a state ID. Which lists his picture, adescription, name address, blah, blah, blah......I think that I only paid $5 for it. When we go on vacation I tape to the back a piece of paper listing where we are staying (POR), both mine and my DH cell phone numbers (in case one is out of range - two different providers) and an emergency number of another relative. My dad lives in Fl so when we are at WDW I use his number even though he lives 2 1/2 hours away he will still be reachable if something were to happen. I then stick it in my childs pocket and explain to him what to do if he gets lost. When we get to the park I point out very obviously a cast member while pointing out their name tag.

Thankfully, we have never had a problem and hopefully never will, but at least we have the provisions set up to try and make the best of a bad situation.

***For those whose states may not so such things, you could always take a current photo of child put it in a photo sized laminate card with the info on the back and stick it together.

Hope this helps, it is always scary being in a strange place and getting lost.

Last year I laminated small tags with our cell phone numbers on them to our dd's shoe laces. This worked well for us because we carry our cell phones in the parks and the kids ar old enough to get a CM to help them find us.

We "lost" dd (then 7?) once in Epcot for about 3 minutes. It was not a fun 3 minutes. Having ID's as you've suggested give a little peace of mind to us and to the kids.

We do almost the same. Only I carry the state ID's and the kids carry the information cards. That way I have the photo of them to show others and they have the phone numbers to call for help.

Every time I see the title of this thread, I keep thinking about trying to 'get lost' from my kids, for a few minutes of quiet... :rotfl: Sorry, i know that's not what the OP meant, but that's my twisted mind for ya!

I got my son an id bracelet (looks like a medical bracelet) from Childs Id. He wears it 24/7, even swimming. It has a train (they have many images), his name and dob on the front, and the back has his address, home #, my name and cell, hubbys name and cell and drs #. Since it looks like a medical bracelet many people notice it and like the idea of having so much info on such a little item.
