I need to start saying no. I normally buy whatever the neighborhood kids are selling but the middle school is getting way out of hand. Is it normal to be selling stuff more than once a month? In the last 2 months, there has been cookie dough, wrapping paper, candles, baked goods catalog, magazines, and discount cards. Today they came by again peddling something else, my husband just said no thanks. I am all for supporting the kids, but this is really excessive. That is 7 things in 2 months. This is an affluent school, what is going on? I am going to have to start saying no, it is just too much. Of course, I am ready for the Girl Scout cookies. Even if each box serves one lol.

Chances are, the different fund raisers are for different activities in the school. My kids are involved in marching band and the chorus, and there are several fund raisers for both activities.

I will buy what I want from the fundraisers, but I do not ask others to buy from them. I don't consider it to be anyone else's responsibility to fund my child's activities.

You have been very kind to buy from them in the past, but you don't need to feel bad about cutting back or saying no altogether.

I completely agree! I don't go door to door w/my kids' activities either. And no, our middle school has not that many fundraisers.

I have been getting hit up trying to get groceries and that's even getting a little old. Especially since they are right next to all the SA Kettle ringers and certain stores ask if I want to up my total to donate x cents to x charity.

I would not feel bad about saying no. LOL on the cookies and single servings. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry - I just have been getting "fundraised" to death lately. I totally went nuts last week due to a niece's fundraising request.

In addition to the niece's request - the other one that just make me go "huh - really?" are some nieghborhood home-schooling groups. They are trying to raise money for computer technology, ipads and trips. Um. No. I'll support your decision to home-school, however I will not be funding your decision to home-school.

Our DD currently needs to sell some magazine subscriptions for something she is involved with in college. DH and I have each picked out 1, and that will meet the requirement. DONE.

My son's last school (just moved last week, so don't know about this one) did a fundraiser monthly.

Yes.

Monthly.

Carnival. Entertainment Books. Yankee Candles. Wrapping paper. Magazines. Candy bars. Selling turkey cutouts for Thanksgiving, paper flowers for Valentine's Day, candygrams, etc and on and on and on.

We tell DS he can pick two big fundraisers for us to do. last year, we did the carnival and Entertainment books.

Homeschooling fundraisers?

The only response I can imagine to that is 'you're kidding, right?' Before :lmao:

My DD18's fundraising is getting out of hand! Our school does a big senior trip to Florida every year, and it costs $850 per student! They have it set up so the student can completely earn this trip with fundraisers:eek: do you know how many fundraisers she has done a month since school started:rolleyes1.

Hoagie, pepperoni, strombolli sales monthly
Jewelry sale
Soup sale
Bread sale
Candy, candy, candy oh and did I say candy
Lollipop sale
Tupperware
Poinsettia sale
Wreath sale
Candy apple sale
Nut sale
Candle sale
I'm sure I've forgotten a few....or ten:sad2:

Then she is involved in student council and FBLA and they do fundraising

And did I mention I have two others that are also involved in sports and other things!

She had a job over the summer, but ended up quitting, I told her it would just be easier to get a job!

My parents only open the door for these puppies ;)

Just kidding. They actually never mention getting fundraised by kids. Their neighborhood is full of kids, but they rarely go door-to-door. If they do get one (for anything but the morsels of goodness above), they usually do buy something.

I HATE fundraisers and I am PTA president of my elementary school. Last year I tried to convert the system over to Direct Donations. There were a few parents that embraced it, but most did not.

We are only running 3 fundraisers this year. If they aren't successful then the students will just have to make do with less.

What burns me about fundraisers is that for the most part you are selling sub par junk at huge markups...then once the fundraising company takes their share you make near nothing. I try to only do fundraisers that allow me to keep 50% of sales but those are few and far between.

My childrens elementary school has done away with door to door fundraisers completely as has our local rec league sports organization... It's been wonderful.

The school does one fundraiser a year now and they call it "cash for clowns". They spend about a month bringing in loose change, buying .50 popcicles for a dollar, and crazy pencils for a dollar. That's it! Done. When I know I won't be hounded to death with fundraisers all year, it's pretty easy to just send in about $10 to $15 a week for my kids to "spend" or donate.

Our youth league just tells us up front that a "non fundraising" fee of $20 is charged at time of registration. That $20 is so very worth it! My kid isn't spending time (and neither am I) peddling some company's product to only get a small percentage of what they are selling.
