I was thinking of trying Boma...I think I would like it, but what about kids? If I have picky kids should I avoid it? I know the 15 year old won't like it, but honestly she is the worst I have ever seen...so picky!!! I'm just more concerned with my other 2 (9 and 8 on the trip) and the one has a milk and wheat allergy. What are your thoughts?

Allergies should be fine; tell the CMs and a chef will go over all the buffet tables with you plus make special items as needed. Disney is really, really great about this.

Picky should do OK, actually. One of the buffet areas has the standard WDW kid items like plain chicken nuggets, macncheese, plain pizza, etc. I didn't know what to expect my first time at Boma and was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the food items were not hot-spicy (beware of a salmon dish covered with what looks like small red and green pepper pieces, though - hothothot). Much like Biergarten in Germany, the sauces tend to be on the side, and meat in sauce is usually one of the biggest barriers for a picky eater. Several of the side items have a 'sweeter' flavor profile: the mashed potatoes are a mix of white & sweet potatoes with a touch of cinnamon; a rice has bits of golden raisins in it, etc.

Two of my kids are quite picky and they did fine at Boma.

I have an 11 yr old that is one of the pickiest when it comes to food and Boma is one of her favorite places to eat. We will be there Saturday evening in fact upon her request..

They will take care of allergies, and there are plain items like mac and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken strips, fruit, and undressed salad on the buffet if the kids won't eat anything else.

I have picky eaters & they LOVED Boma!

If you have time, there is a Culinary Tour at AKL. The chef will walk you through the Boma buffet & explain all the dishes, and you could ask any allergy questions at that time. The day I signed up for the tour it was only me - I got to have all the samplings at Jiko to myself!

Thanks for the replies. I made reservations for dinner on our AK day...I'm a little leary of trying different things, but it looks good and with free dining..why not. I'm glad to hear they have the normal kid items...that is what my 15yr old will be eating!!

another question now. I made reservations at 5:40...what time do we need to leave Animal Kingdom to get there? Are we able to walk around and explore the resort while were there?

The bus ride itself is pretty short, plan on 10 minutes for that. But if you just miss the bus at the stop, you will have to wait 20 minutes for the next one.

You will want to get off at the second AKL stop. The first stop will be Kidani Village; Boma is located at Jambo which is the second stop.

Yes you can walk around. It's the most gorgeous resort and I absolutely love the store there; it's worth taking the time to walk through it too.

I take the picky eaters where I want to eat since I am paying for it. If they don't find food there to eat, it is not really a concern of mine.

Other than food allergies, picky eater are made, not born.

Hehe...I totally agree with you!! I learned from my mistakes with our oldest..NEVER GIVE IN!!!! My youngest is getting less and less picky, but when she was younger she aspirated and developed oral aversions and ended up with a feeding tube. We spent 2 years in feeding therapy just getting her to eat, she is stepping out of the box more, but some days are harder than others.

That's one thing that I appreciated in the first post. The fact that you didn't care what the picky 15 year old thought you were just worried about allergies. It probably makes me a horrible parent, but I thought that was pretty awesome/funny :rotfl:

(I have a picky oldest myself (he's 9) and much time spent ignoring his pickiness has helped him cope and also for him to come out of his box)

We were lucky. My DD was a picky eater from the start, but would always eat rice, plain pasta, and raw veggies and fruit, so we could almost always find something for her to eat. Most of her issues were textural, although she's never liked meat. I learned quickly that forcing food into a kid with textural issues simply led to catching the food in the lap on the way back up. Although I never cooked specifically for her, I made sure that every meal included things she'd like and could make a meal of... and there was always cereal or yogurt if she was still hungry, but there was no way I was cooking two separate meals!

Interestingly, she's also always been interested in ethnic foods, so we have never had a problem with Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian, etc. restaurants, even when she was very little and at her most picky. When she was a high school freshman, her ballet company did an international exchange with a dance school in Vendome, France, where the US dancers spent 5 nights in host homes, put on a collaborative production with the French dancers, and then spent 4 nights in Paris. DD didn't want food to be an issue, so she taught herself to eat chicken and pork. She will also eat steak now, if it's almost well-done. She has turned into a venturesome eater, and even though she still doesn't really like meat, even though she eats it, and won't eat fish at all, she likes sushi... go figure! BTW, her favorite Disney restaurant has ALWAYS been Boma!
