Kidney Stone - again...

Found out the other day that I have an 8 mm stone in my kidney. I'm scheduled for lithotripsy next week since my doctor is concerned about its size and that it could cause some significant problems if it tried to pass from the kidney. I've had lithotripsy done when the stone was stuck in the tube, but never while it's been in the kidney. Have any of my fellow sufferers had lithotripsy done when the stone has still been in the kidney? Should I expect the experience to be about the same?

Stupid kidney stones. This is my fourth one. Sigh.

My husband says it is about the same. On a side note, have you seen an endocrinologist? My DH had recurrent stones and his urologist finally sent him to an endocrinologist and they discovered he had a tumor on his para-thyroid gland. He had it removed 3 years ago and hasn't had another stone.

Glad to hear that it will be about the same. I've not seen an endocrinologist, but thank you for saying something about it. I'll mention it to my doctor. My dad is a chronic kidney stone sufferer, so I suspect I've just inherited it, but it might not hurt to check.

I had one last September. The procedure is the same. Mine was the size of my pinkie fingernail so it would not have passed anyway.

I also have a family history of them. Great, just great. I take 2 potassium citrate pills daily and only drink filtered water. So far, so good. I still freak out if I have an aching back muscle or something, thinking a stone has come back.
