I am currently staying at Kidani , but my wife and grandson both have commented about how dark the room is even with all lights are on. I suppose it is by design, but I have to agree it is dark. Why don't they at least put ceiling lights in the bedrooms.

I am a little nervous about this for our first trip there in January. I want to try all the resorts, so I am happy to try. I just don't think it will be our favorite.

What was designed was the dark room colors for walls, carpet, furniture, etc.). They put in the same amount of lighting that you find in other DVC resorts. If we still had incandescent lights in hotels, the rooms would be fine. But since Acts of Congress mandate lousier energy efficient lighting in hotels, the result is that dark rooms having such lighting remain somewhat dark.

Maybe my next room will be lighter with different color walls. I plan on being at BLT in May.

BLT has the same problem in the 1BRs and 2BRs except it is limited. All the rooms except the master bath are lightly colored and the energy efficient lighting is OK. That bathroom is darkly colored and has the same problem as AKV in that you cannot see that well in that room including to do anything in the mirror.

And I think that whoever was buying the light bulbs was not looking at how the equivalent lumens is different with the fluorescent bulbs compared to incandescent. The just picked up the same "wattage" which isn't the same light producer.

However, what I thought was ok for light 5 or 6 years ago also doesn't seem to be quite enough anymore. ;). Bah humbug to these getting older issues say.

We just finished our first stay at Kidani and I rather like the low lighting! But I am sensitive to bright overhead lights for too long!

Just finished our second stay a Kidani and yes, it is dark. I used my phone flashlight a few times to look into dark areas.

I think part of the reason has to do with light pollution and the animals. I know that when we stay on the beach, there is lights out to help encourage more natural behaviour of the wildlife in the area. Animal Kingdom lodge was dark years ago, long before the mandate pertaining to fluorescent vs incandescent lighting.
