We’re looking to book a two bedroom for October and wanted to get Jambo but it looks like the rooms are being walked or something. We can most likely score Kidani or Boulder Ridge which we know nothing about. Which way would you guys go? We loved Jambo when we stayed there but have read mixed reviews about Kidani. Any thoughts would be appreciated! :yay:

Boulder Ridge rooms are in brutal condition. We don't know the refurb schedule for sure, but it's possible for your dates that some of the rooms will have been refurbished and others not yet. I wouldn't want to take that risk, and would do Kidani.

I agree that I prefer Jambo, but for 2BR, Kidani's are better because you're not limited to lock-offs only.

BRV is in desperate need of a full renovation. It's long past due. Given that you'll either end up with an older room or be in a construction zone at BRV, I'd choose AKV. But the extra bathroom at AKV-Kidani is also a good reason to book there.

Jambo is much smaller than Kidani thus the villas disappear much faster, they are probably already booked by people who intend to stay there rather than walkers. Plus Jambo only has lock off 2 bedrooms, so if all of the studios are booked you can’t get a 2 br.. W/ Kidani you can get both lock off & dedicated 2 br.s..
Which view category are you booking? While I happily book standard view at Jambo knowing I’ll get either ‘partial’ savanna or pool view, I would book savanna view at Kidani not wanting to risk a view out of the front of the building.

Thanks so much everyone! We’re interested in a Savannah view room and our first day is the 20th. Must be the studios all getting booked that’s keeping us out of Jambo. Thanks for that info!

Might be worth taking a look around 5/13 when the new studios at VGF open for non home resort bookings - maybe some people who’ve booked AKV studios at Jambo will jump ship to VGF thus opening up 2 br.s at Jambo allowing you to modify to Jambo :)
That said, there are positives about Kidani, bigger villas w/ more bathrooms (3 in a 2 br.,) can be on a lower floor - thus closer to ‘eye level’ w/ the animals, first stop for park buses, great kid’s splash area at pool.

I would stay at Boulder Ridge. We love Jambo too and did not like Kidani. It was nice that you can park your car under the elevators at Kidani but the hallways were soooo long. It was like funny to me and crazy how long they were! Also I missed the grand feeling of the Jambo lobby. I stayed in BRV in November 2020 and sure it isn't as nice as some of the other gleaming, newly renovated resorts (SSR is gorgeous!!!) but the lodge is still lovely and the room just felt a little dark only.

With an Oct 20 arrival date, you should be contacting rental agencies or renting members now to look for a reservation. As noted, Jambo has a lot fewer rooms than Kidani and invariably fills faster than Kidani. Also, all Jambo 2BRs are lock-offs and thus can be removed from inventory via studio reservations .

The Kidani 2BR is about 100 sg ft larger than both BRV and Jambo 2BRs, and also has the advantage of having three bathrooms rather than BRV's and Jambo's two. I would also vote for Kidani for that reason and one noted above about BRV's need for refurb. Note if you get a reservation through a member (or rental agency that goes through members) for a 2BR savanna view, you should likely request to have the member put in two room requests (non-guaranteed) through member services for a room: (a) overlooking the Sunset savanna (the larger savanna at Kidani with more than 80% of Kidani's savanna view rooms, which has giraffes and zebras; the other, smaller Pembe savanna does not); and (b) either close to the Timon elevator (to be close to the bus stop and not too far from the lobby), or close to the Rafiki elevator (provides shortest trip from building to pool and not too far from the lobby and bus station). Getting either of those two near-elevator requests avoids the extremely long walks from lobby to room mentioned above (which can be up to 1/3 mile). Note, do not just put in a request to be "near the lobby," or near "an elevator" without naming the elevator. The former is the most made request at Kidani, with the result that many do not succeed in getting it and often end up with a room very far from the lobby; the latter is a pointless request because there are three elevator banks spread out along each of the two wings and a "near elevator" request can result in being placed in any room in the building.

Old or not i would do BRV. We stayed there on our first DVC trip when we joined in 2002. I would go there any time.
