Anyone know why they're doing this every day? They just did it yesterday (apparently some got messages on their phones that it was going to happen but we didn't and thought it was real) and are doing it again now. I swear we're all going to be deaf by the time they get done.

Not yet, but I'm going to. The kids want to hang around the resort again tomorrow and if they're testing, I'm going to make sure we're out of the building.

It is quite obnoxious, but effectve! They did it two days in a row when we stayed 07/08 to 07/15. If it doesn't get your attention - nothing will. First day we did not receive a message, we called the front desk though. The second day we did get notified.

We were there for a week in mid-June and they did it then also. It was only 1 day and they did notify us ahead of time. One of the tests lasted almost 5 minutes and was very annoying since we were still in the room, but we stepped out onto the balcony and rode it out.

Not sure why the tests are still ongoing with such frequency. You would think they would have the system bugs worked out by now.

Same thing June 21-27.

We were there last week and they left messages stating that this would occur. Didn't bother us as we were at the pool.

We're here, too. We received messages that it would begin at 10am yesterday and. We heard it yesterday around 3:00. That wasn't too bad. Today, though, I thought it would never end.

It is probably part of DVC getting undeclared sections final inspection and occupancy permits. They probably do a section at a time to keep the time in alarm mode from being to long.

We were there from July 2-7 and it went off two different days. The first was as we were checking in. It wasn't the greatest first impression. But, I'm sure that it is necessary and for our own safety.

i was there july 24-27th and never heard a thing, no messages on our phone either

I'm fairly certain it was the morning of the 24th. I seem to remember getting the message on the phone the evening prior and the morning of. About 10:30-11:00 for about 3 minutes from what I recall.

They were doing it on the 22nd & 23rd while we were there. I can deal with the announcements (can't even make out what they say as it's broadcast out in the halls) and the prelude sound, but the high pitched chirping just irritates me like the world's most annoying alarm clock. (If I were sleeping when this went off I guarantee my reaction would have been to throw a pillow over my head and continue sleeping... not the reaction I should give it, but point is, I'm a sound sleeper and the tones are easily tuned out with just a little effort) I was holding my hand over the alarm in the room just to muffle the high tones (it works if you can reach it)

Also, in the community center you don't get the chirps.

We finally figured out you don't hear it in the bathroom of a 1 bdrm. villa. Guess where we spent a while today! It wasn't so bad yesterday, but today it just seemed to go on forever. We were in community hall when it started and several people came in about the arcade. Seems that when the alarms go off, the arcade shuts down. I know it's for our safety and I have no qualms with that whatsoever, but the defeaning pitch for intervals over the course of 45 minutes was really starting to get old. I just wonder why it's being tested so much (based on what everyone else has posted).

Otherwise, Kidani has exceeded our hopes and we are loving it here!

They have to verify that every pull station, every smoke detector, every water flow device alarms the system. Then if something doesn't work, they may have to retest that loop.

In the end, all that testing could save some lives. Be thankful they don't have to test it at 1AM.

I completely understand they need to test. I just wish they'd give a heads up and we'd clear out for a while. This trip is a non-park one for us so we're spending more time at the resort. Under normal circumstances, we'd be gone all day. Tomorrow, I'll be ready just in case for somewhere to head to for a bit to give them time to finish.

We arrived yesterday on July 28th and we had a message that they were doing it today. We heard them while at the pool. Then tonight we got another message about them doing them again tomorrow.

Hi I deal with life safety systems and testing of fire alarms at the hospital I work at. You state that you know they have to test and I agree with you on that WDW should clearly inform every one that they will be testing including times it will be done and give people all the information they can. That's only good customer service but also good common sense.

Those tests you hear were for the verification of what's called the audible devices, the ones that make noise. With the huge size of the buildings at WDW it takes quite a bit of time to go around and listen to see if you can hear from each device.
The multiple days in the same areas probably dealt with overlapping coverage zones (just a guess)
We don't let the alarms go off but broadcast "soothing music" though the speakers-last time it was Brahm's Lullaby got complaints about putting staff to sleep with that 1. I've been trying for years to get Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" just once; but for some odd reason that keeps getting voted down.

Per code, fire alarms systems have to be tested once each year at about the same date and involves activating every smoke device that the building has. (and there's a lot more then smoke and fire detectors and pull stations) And the size of those resorts require does days maybe weeks of testing.
So you only experienced a very small part of all the testing that was going on

And yes it's very annoying to be listening to them and working with them.

Hope this explains some of your frustrations

They did it on two mornings that we were there july 27th and july 28th we even got look in the gift shop as the shutters have to come down during the testers...none of the CMs knew about the testing and I told them I received a message on my in room phone!
