We have a delux room booked at Portofino for our trip. I just now got to wondering if we should have booked a kid's suite....:( We have a 6, 4 and 2 yr. old. What are your opinions?

i haven't stayed at the portofino, so i don't know exactly what the difference is between a deluxe and a kid's suite at that particular hotel. however, i CAN say, that we spent a week in anaheim (5 days in the parks) in 2007, and we LOVED the kid's suite. it was the first time we had ever booked one, we have 4 children, aged 15, 9, 6, and 2 at the time. we took one queen bed, the 15 year old got the other, the 9 year old got the top bunk, and the 6 and 2 year olds slept at opposite ends of the bottom bunk. it was so nice. the kid's suite where we stayed had a door that closed to the main room, but with a large window (on the door), so we could pull back the curtains and still see what was going on in there. they had their own a/c unit, a small dresser for their clothes, a little table and chairs, plus their own t.v.

they had enough floor space to play with toys we'd brought from home, and it was really nice to have the extra drawer space.

we're going back in may of next year, and will be getting a kid's suite again. when we are in anaheim for just one night, we get a cheaper room somewhere else because for a 2 day at DL, we're literally only in the room to sleep. but for a longer trip, 5 days in the parks, the suite is so much more comfortable, because we spend more time at the hotel.

hope this helps!

With your kids' ages I don't think I would upgrade to a kids suite. I guess it really depends on how much it is and how much you plan to spend in your room. We did not spend any time in our room except to sleep and shower, one day we used the pool but we didn't hang out in out room. (I have not stayed at the Portofino, I stayed at Hojos) But if it was more than $10 extra a night, I wouldn't do it.

Are you going during off season? If so you might be in your room a little more than during peak season. It is worth it to us because my DH always wants to stay up and watch the news, but he wants the kids to go to sleep, which is very hard for them to do if they are in bed with the tv on 5 feet away from them. I would break it down to how much more per day it is and then decide if it's worth that amount go for it. For us, we will easily pay 30-40 more per day just for extra space (we are also a family of 5).

We will most likely stay at the Portifino also in May and we will book the Kids suite. If it is anything like what we had in SD last year it will be great and worth the extra$. DH and I like to wach a movie at night after the kids are in bed. I really dont like to go to bed at 8:00pm so this works for us. I would do it if I were you.

I have stayed in a Kids Suite at the Portofino and we loved it... the kids loved it. We watched a movie and they were tucked in their bunk beds behind the closed french doors. Worked out great!!!
