EQUESTRIAN DAY CAMPS
Campers will spend a portion of their day (approximately 3 hours) in our equestrian center learning horse care and riding techniques. Lessons, ring work, trail rides, games and special events will fill your week and improve your riding skills. But more than just riding skills, we teach horsemanship. Campers are exposed to the total care including daily feeding, brushing, saddling, bathing, and mucking of stalls. Lectures on key topics of horse care are also offered throughout the week. There is also ample time to enjoy all the other great activities at Minikani providing your horse lover with the best of both worlds!
TAKING THE REINS - Ages 8-14
Aimed toward the rider with little or no experience, this camp is designed to build confidence around horses both on the ground and in the saddle. Riders will learn about correct basic position, balance, steering and control in their mounted lessons and also learn important horsemanship skills, such as grooming and tacking in the barn.
TRAILBLAZERS - Ages 9-14
Campers should be able to ride independently at a walk with some trot experience before entering this program (assessment lessons are available). During this program campers will receive further instruction in basic riding. Horsemanship skills will be further developed with more in depth discussions and practical hands-on experience with our horses and equipment.
SADDLE CLUB - Ages 10-15
Are you ready for a little more of a challenge? Saddle Club campers will receive further training in flat work and jumping, both indoors and outdoors. In the barn, campers will be taught more detailed information about the horse such as barn routine, feeding and common ailments. Campers should have started cantering before registering for this program (assessment lessons are available).
INTERMEDIATE YOUNG EQUESTRIANS - Ages 10 - 14 Spend all day in the barn and experience what it takes to own your own horse. During the day, you will learn about barn routine, including how to take care of a horse, horse psychology and other more in-depth horse topics. You will be instructed on the flat with the aim of improving and advancing the skills you already have. You will also have the opportunity to assist the instructors with lessons. Campers will be given the opportunity to swim each day.
ADVANCED YOUNG EQUESTRIANS- Ages 12-16 Spend all day in the barn and act as a mentor to our less experienced campers. There will be in-depth discussions on horse health, show preparation, and yearly maintenance of a horse, aw well as horse psychology and daily care. You will gain further experience in flat work and jumping with a lead in to showing. Campers will also assist the instructors with lessons and lectures. Swimming will be offered each day. Minimum ability: ride independently at work, trot and canter, a knowledge of jumping position strongly recommended.
