The hubby and I are looking for us a new family ride.....doesn't even have to be brand new. Just something dependable. We had to file bankruptcy a few years ago (young and stupid then and way over our head), but we only have one year left. Since then my parents got us both a vehicle in their name, and we just paid them the payments and insurance. (I HAVE SUPER AWESOME PARENTS!!!) Those vehicles are not very dependable.....they haven't given us much trouble, but I just don't feel safe going long distances.....my hubby has a 2003 Chevrolet truck that has over 200,000 miles on it. We paid that off 2 months ago. And I drive a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with 130,000 miles on it. Mine will be paid off in February. Usually when we go on vacation, we have to borrow my mom's Ford Edge, and let's face it....that's just embarassing!!! So we have learned quite a lot in the last few years, and are looking for something affordable and dependable for our family. We were thinking of going with a certified pre-owned Kia Sorento. Do any of you have experience with this type of vehicle? Any advice?

I've had a 2013 KIA Sorento for a year now. I love it! It's been very dependable so far. It's fun to drive and handles well. The backseat is roomy enough for our two teenaged boys (a 6-footer and an almost 6-footer!). A third person can sit pretty comfortably in the middle of the backseat. I sat between the boys on a 2 1/2 hour trip and it wasn't bad. I also like the cargo space in the back. It holds suitcases, etc. for the four of us for a week-long trip. I also like the secret compartment that flips open under the rug in back. I hid some Christmas presents in there last year and I put my purse there if I ever leave it in the car. So far, it's been a really great car. :)

I have a 2011 Kia Sorento and love it!! It has made 4 trips from NY to FL and back and rides nicely. I have one teenage boy who will be 6 foot soon enough and he is very comfy back there. LOVE the cargo in the trunk with the secret compartment. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!!

I have an 09 Sportage. The mid-size (smaller) SUV Kia offers. My year model is different, more SUV than the true crossover it is now. It's a good reliable car. In 4 years I've only done regular maintenance on it. Oil, break pads, tires etc... no major repairs. Kia has a good warranty as well as road side assistance, though I've never needed either yet. I'm overall pleased with my choice.

regards

I had a Kia Sorento 05 I believed and loved it!!! I upgraded in 09 to a Kia Borrego and love it as well. I recently bought my DD20 2 Kia vehicles, 12 Kia Soul (which was stolen:() and a 2011 Soul Limited edition. I love the ride of both and she adores it but now wants to a Kia Sportage:rotfl2: I love Kia's because the price and the dependability.

We had a 2009 Kia Sedona that we got when our 2002 odyssey kicked the bucket. At the time we didn't have many choices as far as vans go. We got the base model which had no trunk space as it was shorter. But we had 3 kids at the time so we just took out 1 of the seats. When our son came along we needed a bigger vehicle for strollers and stuff. That said, my only complaint was that it didn't have storage space. Drove great, excellent warranty, and lived up to its safety rating. A guy hit us and while his car was totaled, the van was barely damaged and the kids and I were all fine.

I have an 09 Kia Sportage too and I LOVE it! The warranty alone makes it worth it. I have had a few problems, like the transmission went out. Not only did the warranty take care of the cost, they also paid for my rental car and I got phone calls from the owner of the franchise appologizing for the trouble. Great customer service!!

Is it certified by KIA? Make sure that it will retain the 10 year / 100K warranty, generally KIA will not honor that warranty if you are not the original owner. However, I would assume that a KIA certified would. You will want to ask your sales person about that.

I LOVE my 2011 Kia Sorrento. It is the best car I have ever owned.

I drove 2 Kia sedans well past 100,000 miles, and DH is still driving my 2005 Spectra as a commuter car with almost 200,000 miles on it. Very dependable. The only problem we ever had was a bad transmission gear on the first one at 50,000 miles. Thy have a 100,000 mike warranty and it was fixed for free in one day by putting in a whole new transmission.

I also have a 2013 Sorrento and I love it! We can actually fit 7 in there with the 3rd row of seats pretty comfortably. We drove to Chicago a few weeks ago (about 5 hours) and my mom sat between the 2 kids in the backseat (with boosters) pretty comfortably. I did get a V6, which I am not sure I would do again because the gas mileage isn't fantastic and that thing really has a lot of pickup! I find myself driving 85 mph pretty easily :rolleyes1

We just bought the 2014 Kia Sorrento...I LOVE IT!!! I just hated my minivan with a passion and after 5 years I was just done. I haven't thought about it since...I am in love with my Kia! We got the one with the 3rd row ( we have three kids and a large dog) and I took it 2 weeks after I bought it from Colorado to California and back and everyone loved it (we had it packed with 2 adults and 4 kids that trip and the luggage for two families). Can't say enough about it.

We have a 2003 Kia Sorento (bought used in 2004) - I wish it would die as the shocks are going and the Air Conditioning no longer works, but it just keeps humming along great :thumbsup2

We've always followed the maintenance schedule (oil and filter changes, etc..) and other than regular wear-and-tear (brakes, etc..) it's been a fantastic vehicle! We also tow a pop-up-trailer with it too, so it gets heavy use.

That said, my SIL has a 2010 (I think) Sorrento, and she says it's a lemon -- She isn't good at Maintenance Schedules, though, and tends to drive vehicles into the ground (she's a great person, though ) So I don't know.

No complaints here - great vehicle!

I should have added that I have a 2011 KIA Soul and I love it! I had a 2010, but it got totaled 6 months after I bought it. Loved it so much I replaced it with the same car, just a year newer. There have been a few minor issues, but KIA is always quick to fix any problems for me.

I have never owned a Sorento but I owned a Sportage years ago and loved it. Currently we have an 08 Optima and a Borrego. I have been well pleased with both in terms of bang for your buck and for dependability. We will probably drive both vechiles until at least 100,000 miles and have already talked of getting a Sorento next time we buy.

I had a 2006 Sportage and loved it so much I traded it in for a Kia Sportage when they did the style change because I liked the looks of the new style.
I love the Kia for its warrenty and the fact that I have no problems at all with the car. I don't like the poor visibility when backing up and the fact that they took away the reclining back seats. They were great on long trips.
I was thinking of going a bit smaller and looked at the Soul but I just couldn't trade down from a V-6 to a V-4. I like pick up and power.
but I am sure my next car and on and on will be Kia.

Also.. when I bought my first Kia I brought it over for my brother to see. He drove it for about half hour and stopped at the Kia dealer and bought a Sorrento for himself. His is a 2008 so he has the tru mini van style, not the new SUv style they have now. But he loves his Kia tool

I am driving my 3rd Kia now. The first one was a preowned 2002 Kia Sedona that I purchased from Enterpirse Car sales. The second was a brand new 2007 Kia Optima which was totaled out 4 months ago when a young lady turned in front of me as I was doing 55 in a 55. I had the right of way. Thankfully the car did what it was supposed to and protected us from what could've been serious injuries. I now have a 2013 Kia Sportage which I love.

I just traded a 2011 kia Sportage in for a 2013 Honda CRV. Sportage was the worst car I ever had. I tried to love it, but never happened. It had a sport suspension that made your teeth rattle, and was made worse by the 18 wheels. Super cute car, had almost every bell and whistle, but not for me. The information screen was in red-with my new polarized sunglasses on I couldn't see it. The sound system was horrible. There was a rattle in he driver door that drove me crazy. I would get it to stop hit a wrinkle in the pavement and it would start up again. Terrible visibility-I almost got creamed twice trying to get on the highway. 16 year old DD was terrified to drive it, it made 11year old DS car sick. The kicker was the gas mileage. Sticker and the dealer said it would average 25 mpg. I was getting 18. So I traded it in after 6 weeks. Lost some money, but it was worth it to get out of that car. Live and learn. I like the Honda CRV more and more each time I drive it.
Oh-and the 100k warranty doesn't transfer-first owner only. I made the dealer throw in an extended warranty, which I was able to return when I traded it.
I have friends that own the bigger one (Sorrento) - they love it.
Buy a honda.

So many people seem to love their kias, I found that unless you want a simple one the options really add up. while other cars either include them or the over all price after adding the same options on several brands ... Well the KIA seems to cost more overall. I guess the 10 year warranty is good if you keep a car long periods. I didn't like the feel or viability of most of the kia cars I tried.
