I am considering doing a behind-the-scenes tour during this vacation, and I was wondering if the Keys to the Kingdom tour would be worth it. Does it go into the utilidors? Behind the scenes? Any information on the actual content of the tour would be greatly appreciated.:D

We did this tour 5 yrs ago. It was a fun and interesting tour. We did go behind the scenes, and into the utilidor which was really cool. We learned a lot of things about the park that we would have never known otherwise. I highly recommend it.

We took this tour last Dec. and it was great!!! Unfortunately, our tour started out in the pouring rain (the first hour or so) but soon it dried up. Lots of interesting information that gives you a new perspective on MK and lunch at CHH was really good.

I say go for it!!!! :teeth:

Yes it is a wonderful tour. I took it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much.

Have Fun!!!

we too took it a couple of years ago and really enjoyee hearing some other "secrets". Go for it

I went on this tour in February with my mother, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

I just took this tour 2 weeks ago. You should definately go for it. It was awesome! I don't know if it's possible to request a particular tour guide but ours was excellent! Her name is Rae.....

I hate to be the negative one here but we did this last year and were very disappointed. We thought we would get to see more of the utilidors but we only got to go into one small corner under the Emporium in Main Street. Our guide wasn't very informative and if you asked her anything, she would say "I'll get to that later!" but she never did. Seeing the parade floats and behind the scenes of splash mountain was interesting though. I'm afraid though that our bad experience has ruined us for any future behind the scene tours. It wasn't worth the price!

We took the tour in December and loved it. This was my son's 16th birthday present! I'm sure we enjoyed it more than he did. Our tour guide was very informative and entertaining. It's a lot of walking, but worth it. We also got to go on HM and POC, learning about hidden Mickeys along the way. My son had to go back to HM and find one of the hidden Mickeys that he could not see the first time!

Donna -

Would you mind sharing your guides name? I am understand the guides rotate tours and I am spending $200 for the full day and would be very disappointed with what you are saying.

Thanks
Sandy

We did this tour in Dec 2000 and it was great. As much Disney info as I know, there was still more to learn. I heard that it would spoil the "magic" but it didn't. It enhanced it. It's just amazing what they do to make it a great experience. They make you promise not to reveal the secrets you just have learned so you just have to see for yourself. Enjoy it.

I don't know if it's possible to request a particular tour guide but ours was excellent! Her name is Rae.....
We had Rae as our guide when we were there in March. My DD (age 17) and her friend loved her! They want to take a different tour next summer and have her for their guide again, so if anyone knows if you CAN request a certain guide, I'd be interested in knowing this too.

We just did this two weeks ago also (5-17). We loved it. I would highly recommend it but be aware that the tour can last 4-5 hours or more. Our tour lasted 5.5 hours and probably would have been longer but one of the couples had to leave by 2pm to catch their flight home. We started at 8:30am and finished a little after 2pm. Our tour guides name was Jennifer and she was great.

We have done this tour twice!! It was well worth it. It was a few years ago so I don't remember our guides name but both times we had wonderful CM's taking us around :D

If you want a great tour over at EPCOT, try the UnDiscovered Future World Tour.... We did this tour in 2001 and it was great. This one didn't provide lunch like the Keys to the Kingdom, but you do stop so you can get lunch. You go to all the pavillions in the front part of EPCOT including parts innoventions. You receive a pin like keys to the kingdom but our guide also took all our names and we got preferred viewing for Illuminations that night.
:teeth:
We have also done the tour of the World Showcase, that one wasn't as good but still interesting. Lots of info on all the countrys.

DH and I did this tour 2 years ago and it was one of the highlights of our trip. I wish I could remember our guide's name! She was fantastic. She ended by the Partners statue of Walt and Mickey and the story she told at the end had us all in happy tears!

You'll have a wonderful time!!

Sandy, I'm sorry. I don't remember her name. I just remember she was a little pudgy and she had a mole on her face with a long hair growing out of it. I think she had long reddish blond hair pulled back in a ponytail. I think she was supposed to have the day off but they called her in for an extra tour. I don't think she minded that though. She was very pleasant just didn't have a lot of information--no hidden mickeys for example--and not able to deviate from her script when we asked her questions.

We took almost every backstage tour last Oct on our Honeymoon. We couldn't ride a lot of the 'thrill' rides due to a recent auto accident, so we substituted these tours. If you are at all interested in the story behind the magic, then any of these tours are excellent. All the tours are a lot of walking, but we found that if we kept up at the front of the pack, we could quickly find a rail to lean on and rest while the group caught up.

We really enjoyed the AK backstage tour. In addition to seeing the animal pens and meeting with some of the keepers you get a couple blessed hours of air conditioned classroom time with special guests. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a little more of the 'physical plant' (the water ways, shipping and handling, float storage, etc). All in all our favorite backstage tour of the trip.

At EPCOT we took both the WS and FW tours. Although I knew about 60% of the information from the FW tour, our guide was excellent (he helped write the tour) and I did learn quite a bit. Disneyland offers a Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour where you learn a lot about Walt's motivation for various aspects of Disneyland. A lot of the FW tour was like this and that was the stuff I already knew. So I would have liked to seen a tour that focused more on how all of these wonderous things work. But your milage may vary.

The FW tour is a lot of information spread over a nice walk through the park. It was our least favorite tour of the bunch, but still we highly recommend it. On this tour you really get into the details of each land. Stuff you'd never know unless you took the tour or had a 'native' guide from the pavillion. Our tour guide was excellent, but our largest complaint was she was always waiting for the group to catch up and that made the tour long. We budged an extra hour and even that wasn't enough time and we had to leave to make HDDR that night. I recommend you take this tour *before* you visit WS for the first time on your own. Then when you return, you'll have a much richer visit.

The MK Keys to the Kingdom tour was also very good. I like how it focused on preparing us to be cast members by teaching us the four keys and how they are used throughout the kingdom.

Each of these tours depends largely on the knowledge of the tour guide and how far 'off-script' they are willing to go. I found that if I asked the right questions, they would really open up their storybook and provide some personal observations that added great value to any 'facts' they had imparted.

As with everything, YMMV. But I recommend all four of those tours to anyone who has been to WDW at least once.

Do you need to get reservations in advance or can you just go to the paticular park that day and go to guest relations. If you need reservations in advance, how far?
Thanks

I recommend purchasing your tours in advance (or booking a package that includes the tours). This allows them to plan the number of tours for the day (they might have two or three if enough people sign up).
