keys to the kingdom tour question

We are 4 adults (me, my husband, and our 2 grown children) who are considering whether or not to take the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Only
one of us, my son, is strongly in favor of it. The rest of us don't really care
one way or the other, but we have decided that we want to stick together
regardless of what we do, so if one is going we will all go.

Here's my question. My son's primary interest in the tour is the opportunity to see the underground tunnel system, specifically the computer
center and any other technical aspects of the park. From what I have read about the tour, it seems that you see very little of the tunnels, and I have seen no mention of anything related to seeing any of the computer systems. How much of the tunnels do you see, and how "technical" will the tour be for someone who is highly technical, ( a computer geek) himself?

Thanks

Last time I did KTTK was in Dec. of 2004. We were in the utilidors for about 10 mins, and did not get to see any of the central control computers. The most technical thing that we saw/learned about was the computer system that they use to re-stock the shops, and the waste management system. From my recollections, the tour is not really "techno-geek" heavy. It really was the highlight of that trip, though. Very interesting, and new way to see the MK. :thumbsup2

I personally love the tour (have been twice), but it doesn't sound like it's what you're expecting. The tour focuses on the details of Disney - things like the forced perspective in buildings, history of the park, distance between trash cans, etc and is not at all about computers. The time spent in the tunnels in minimal (10 minutes at best). The tunnels actually remind me of a rundown sports arena, strangely enough. While I would recommend the tour to any true Disney fan, I wouldn't want your son to be disappointed. It's just not what he's looking for.

We took the tour in July. We may have spent about 20 min. in the tunnels, toward the end of our tour. We did not see the computer area. We saw how the tunnels were used by cast members to get from one area to another and for working on utilities within the park. It is not a real technical tour, but it is well worth the money. We were all glad we went.

Incidentally, if your son wants to see Disney computers in action, his best bet may be the Undiscovered Future World tour. The tour includes a stop in the Mission: Space control room - which actually is the ride's control room on the back side. It's only one stop on the tour, but it may be closer to what he's looking for... (A review of the Undiscovered Future World tour that I wrote a couple of years ago is online at http://allearsnet.com/btp/tour_fw8.htm).

We took it on August 9th, 2006 and I can tell you that as of that date our guide say that the tour will never go into the computer rooms. You actually stop in the tunnel and watch a video about the computer room and how the laundry service works. The time we spent in the tunnels was abut 15 minutes. Very basic. The only thing that we saw was where the cm's go to get their pins replenished. It was about an 8x8 room with one person sitting in it surrounded by a bunch of pins.
