Key West: The Best Way to Tour?

We're taking the Western cruise in July ... two families with kids plus one set of grandparents. While the rest of us do our own thing, the grandparents (in their 70s/80s) want to tour Key West. So I'm looking for advice:

Due to their age, the tour should be other than walking (train or trolley type of tour). Any advice?

It will be very hot: are there any tour options that have some air conditioning?

I'm sure they will want to get off on occasion and see some sights at their leisure: does this limit us to the trolley?

And last question: is it best to book a Disney excursion or help them plan something on their own? (I do have all the materials that Shirley sent me and will start reviewing them soon.)

I have done the conch train before, and it takes an hour or so. It is not air conditioned, and it does not stop at all to let anyone off. The trolley, i believe will let you get off and back on at different spots, but i am not sure if it is air conditioned.

We did the trolley on our own (not through Disney). It is so easy and you can get on and off at like 15 different stops. Here is a link Key West Trolley

Not air conditioned but they give you cute little paper fans to help keep you cool.

If you are just interested in getting around the island to all the key places and not necessarily in a tour, you can buy an all day ticket on the Bone Island Shuttle (run by the same people as the trolley tours) for $7 and the shuttle IS air conditioned. The trolley is open air and is not air conditioned. Since Key West is typically the port with the most stifling heat, we really appreciated that we chose the shuttle to get around.

I have a similar question because we are doing the Western in September. My Mom is coming with us and she has some trouble dealing with the heat.
Doctor P-Can you get on and off the Bone Island Shuttle as you can on the trolley? Does it make the same stops as the trolley? How far from the pier is the nearest stop?

Thanks for the info.
