Key West Recommendations?

We are a couple in our early mid 50s, looking for a great resort in Key West for late January or early February. We have two main priorities: Accommodations and service on-par with Disney's deluxe resorts or better, and a private, on-site beach. We also would like a great view from our room. I've visited Trip Advisor but it seems like all the resorts recommended there either don't have a private beach, or oceanview rooms aren't available for those specific weeks. What do you recommend?

Beach in Key West is actually hard to come by! Most people don't realize it but there are almost no natural beaches on Key West-- most all of the sand has to be brought in. So you may want to mark that off of your priority list and just focus on something with a great ocean front and awesome pool.

Many visitors are suprised to find that the island paradise of the Florida Keys does not have a lot of beaches.

You see, Key West and the rest of the Florida Keys are coral islands - former reefs, from when the ocean was deeper.

Today, the ocean is shallower and the reefs are six miles offshore, providing a barrier to wave action. Thus, with little sand to begin with, and a lack of wave action to deposit more, beaches in the Keys are a bit of a rarity.

the key west hyatt is nice. all beaches in the keys are manmade. The Keys are made up of coral reefs, with no natural sandy beaches.....

That being said if you can try to do another key, I'd suggest hawks cay resort on duck key hawkscay.com or cheeca lodge & spa on islamorada cheeca.com . Also try tranquilitybay resort tranquilitybay.com on Marathon. Although Key West is a nice place to visit, it's more known for it's B&B's rather than the resorts....it's also has a very " city" kind of feel to it, at least to me it does and the other keys feel much more tropical than Key West....Good luck!!

Little Palm gets my vote! Romantic, no kids allowed. Beautiful views everywhere. And the best meals of my life!

I stayed at the Reach Resort several years ago and loved it! Back then it was a Wyndam but it is now owned by Waldorf Astoria. It has a beautiful beach!

We stayed at the Westin at Mallory Square last year. We loved it - can't wait to go back! You will see mixed reviews about it on Trip Advisor, but our experience was great. We also heard good things about Ocean Key which was mentioned above.

I agree with other posters...you cannot find hotels with Private Beaches on Key West basically because beaches do not exist...

Also Key West is not a "resort" type of place in my opinion. There are many Bed & Breakfasts that are fabulous with great hospitality and basically anything you need they take care of/point you in the right direction/make suggestions/etc.
