Is there a hop-on/hop-off bus in Key West? Can you walk to Hemingway's house? What do you advise to do and where to eat? We prefer hole-n-de-wall places. Two adults, enjoys culture and nature, not into thrills and spills... not into getting wet, unless the moisture is coming from rain. Thanks!

We used the trolley to travel through Key West (you can hop on and off) and it's useful if you want to go far and visit that creepy doll (we didn't, I was too scared LOL) but we walked back from Hemingway's house to the port very easily. I find Key West to be "walkable". Next time we visit, if we are allowed visiting without an excursion of course, we will most likely just walk.

We went to eat breakfast and key lime pie at Blue Heaven. It was very nice with a good ambiance.

The town is absolutely charming. Fell in love with it. There are six toed cats and chickens in the street pretty much everywhere you look. It is a special place.

We did an Old Town Trolley hop on/hop off tour and it was great.

We've walked from the ship to the southernmost point and back. Its not bad. Hemingway and the Mel Fisher museum was along the way. As far as where to eat take your pick. Sloppy Joe's, Margarittaville, Capt Tony's are good . Theres any number of restaurants along the way. Word of caution though. If you do walk,or wander around, there's a few less then family stores and establishments around there. Especially if you have young kids.

https://www.elsiboneyrestaurant.com/ is off the beaten path in Key West and is pretty much in a residential neighborhood. Found it to be excellent a few years ago.
Robert the Doll is also in Key West if you want spooky.
You won't be able to make the ferry to Dry Tortuga, but a half day by sea plane might be up your alley if you don't mind the cost.

There are 2 docks at Key West. Mallory Square and the Navy Pier. Mallory is obviously the main area and you can come and go easily. If at the Navy yard, they will shuttle everyone to Mallory Square.

It is walkable if you don't experience mobility constraints. It can be quite warm and muggy so bring water.

Hemingway house really depends on your tour guide. I wasn't well cultured in his works so it was less interesting to me. Though I didn't mind sitting on one of the benches while the cats came to play =D

we rented an electric golf car/golf cart that they were renting at the end of the dock. It was a very smooth process and it really helped us get around easier without all the walking. There was street parking wherever we went. Hemmingway’s house is pretty far from the dock. I wouldn’t waste What precious time you have there walking just to save a dime.

We did a non-cruise trip to the Keys in July and did a drive down to Key West from Key Largo. I would recommend lunch at the Southernmost House "Casa Gayo Hueso". If you like lobster try the lobster pizza, it was outstanding.

According to google maps, the walk to Hemingway's house from Mallory Square is .9 miles (18 minutes). Its a flat walk.

Great point. It seems that Disney is usually at Pier B or the Navy Pier. With Key West trying to further limit ships in port (I don't think the vote has happened yet) it will be interesting to see which lines will continue to pay for the pleasure of going there. It'll be costly since there aren't many opportunities for ports for trips from Galveston or New Orleans.

When we were there 2 years ago there was a free hop on hop off bus , The Duval Bus Loop. It makes a loop and runs every 20 minutes stopping at all the Hot Spots.

We rented a golf cart from Sunshine rentals. My then 13 y.o daughter still rates this as one our best travel days. Cost was minimal and we were able to see most of the island.

We walked most everywhere (including to Hemingway House) and has a good meal at DJ’s Clam Shack.

For those of us who are older and may find lengthy walks challenging, there are relatively few taxis in Key West, so you may want to opt for the rental golf carts or the hop-on hop-off trolley.
Highly recommend the local treat, frozen key lime pie on a stick.
