My wife and I are at DW the next couple of days before our cruise departing next Tuesday. Orlando is incredibly hot right now. We go back to our hotel noon-5 each day to be out of the heat.

In thinking about the cruise, it seems like we disembark in Key West at the hottest part of the day. How hot will it be? We don't want to overheat on the first stop and then not enjoy the rest of the cruise.

This is our first cruise, so we've been contemplating just going ashore at CC and staying on the ship at the other ports.

I have never gone on a cruise to Key West, so don't have a personal reference between Orlando and Key West. I have, however, been to Key West and can say it didn't seem as hot as the mainland did. There was always a little breeze which helped. Take a look at weather underground and it looks like it lists Key West as about 10 degrees lower (today's heat index is at 96 for KW and 107 for Orlando).

Have a great trip!

It looks like we will be cruising together. I live in Orlando. I have been to Key West in the summer and it never feels as hot as Orlando...lots of nice coastal breezes. It also looks like the weather for Wed Aug 4 is forecasted to be 87 for the high, 82 for the low, with isolated thunderstorms. I can't wait for our cruise, and for a break in the heat!

We love Key West...it's a great port. We have cruised multiple times so we are staying onboard in Nassau, except for may be a short walk.

My dd's and I went jet skiing in Key West. It was cool and refreshing.
We just walked around a bit and it was hot.
We used Island Water Sports which was right on the dock. Had a really fun time.

I Always make sure to check weather underground and see the "heat index" temp. It takes into account the humidity level and gives you more of an accurate idea of how hot it will feel like. :)

My family and I were on the Wonder July 20-25 and stopped in Key West on the 21st. Yes, it was hot.

What we did was each get ourselves a bottle of cold water, poured a packet of that Crystal Light Pure Fitness in it, and away we went down Duval St. Went in and out of the various shops on the way to the Southernmost marker to get a breath of cool air. Did the same with the water on the way back. Found a shaded bench in front of the Butterfly House to sit for a few moments and we were none the worse for wear getting back to the ship.

You might even be tempted to find a Blond Giraffe along the way for a frozen chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick.

Be prepared and enjoy your visit to Key West. It's a great place to visit. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

We will be on the same cruise this Tues (our first) ...cant wait. I live in FL and the heat still gets to me. I NEVER do the parks in summer. I'm glad to hear that it feels cooler in the Keys!

We cruised the first week of June, it was sweltering both in Orlando and in Key West, wear light clothes and drink lots but be prepared unless you are used to the summer heat in Florida it will take it out of you. We rented an electric car otherwise would not have made it walking around. Did that for about an hour and figured out the only way we were going to see much of Key West was by renting the EC.

We were on the July 20 cruise as well and Key West was HOT! We live in Central Florida and are used to the heat, but it was really hot in Key West. I agree, wear light clothing and drink plenty of water. You could also go out and explore later in the day, that may help.

Have fun!

You all are scaring me! :scared1: We are cruising on the Wonder on 8/17. I hate the summer.:sad2: And of course you spend more time in Key West than anywhere else. I have always wanted to visit Key West. I hope it cools down by then.
Yeah, I know I'm dreaming.

We are on the Aug 17th cruise also and its been really hot in New York lately and I'm glad it has because it kinda prepared me for the heat in Fl. I know it still doesn't compare because I grew up in Daytona Beach and boy does that sun bake you

We were there almost a year ago today, and it was very very hot. We had cruised Panama Canal the year before, and that was very hot too. We thought Key West was almost brutally hot, but we still had one of the best shore excursion days ever. We loved it. We boarded a trolley, and did a city tour. there was not a breathe of air. We then absolutely enjoyed the air conditioned ship wreck museum, the un air conditioned aquarium and a mall. It was very hot, but every thing was at a very slow pace...just pace yourself, and you will be fine. For us, it wasn't a really active day. I will say, when we got back on board, we pulled the curtains shut and all rested in the a/c! Wonderful port. The only thing that struck us weird was the naked bar on some street we drove by. It was so hot, and my kids were saying, "ucck." We kept thinking of the bar stools...

Key West is extra "warm" so be aware enough to have water with you and if you think about it, they do sell the towels that go around the neck which holds ice and it keeps you cool off.
I was born and raised there so I am use to it, but it can be brutal.
