This is our first disney cruise. We have cruised on carnival in the past and did not give our daughter charging privileges. On the Disney Cruise, she will be 10 and would like privileges, but I am afraid she will go WAY OVER BOARD!!!!! Is there any way that I can cap her privileges for the cruise length?

No. The charging privileges are either "on" or "off". You can't put a limit on how much.

You can, however, give her a gift card - that can be used in the gift shops directly. But it can't be used for smoothies, as those are charged to the onboard account.

What does she think she'll need to purchase? Other than excursions, even we don't charge much beyond alcoholic drinks, spa, and the occasional trip to the shops (where you can use a gift card as PrincessShmoo points out or you can be with her when she does that and charge it for her). Obviously, she wouldn't be charging alcohol or spa purchases so other than the shops about the only things that she could be purchasing would be smoothies and snacks at the snack bar at the theatre.

This is our first disney cruise and i know on carnival, she was uoset with my DH and i because she could not use hwr card at the arcade, but her friends did and she just watched instead of playing. I don't know what she would be purchasing, but I can tell you that my daughter is a very giving child. She will make friends and before you know it, she will be buying EVERYBODY smoothies or going into the gift shop w her new friends. If one of her friends say that that they like something, she will buy it for them.. this is why I was asking about a cap.

With a child having that personality there is zero chance I would even give her a gift card.

Just buying for herself I would give her a GC and when it's out of money it's out. A GC is the only way DS has been good about budgeting money at Disney. My son is 11 and I still won't activate his KTTW anywhere.

If he wants to play arcade games, he goes with me and/or DH. Usually DH.

Side question...does DCL have arcades anymore?

I believe they are removing them. I know the Dream one is gone. Don't know for sure about the others.

The arcade is gone on the Magic now. It is now the space for the Edge.

We gave our son a checkbook register (11yo at the time) and he had to account for every charge he made. He also had to have permission to an extent. He wasn't allowed to just go shopping. He would ask if he could have a smoothie or if he could purchase something for a friend back home in the gift shop. We were almost always with him but gave him some flexibility and allowed him to have the leeway to charge it for himself. It was nice for us to not have to go with him each time he wanted a smoothie and it was a learning opportunity for him. He learned how quickly all those little charges can add up into a big bill, he was doing math and learning to balance a checkbook. Having to account for all the spending also helped him understand why we said no when we did. Money doesn't grow on trees. Each dollar is earned and should be spent with consideration of how hard it was to earn that dollar. He had some money that he gave us that paid for some of his charges and we paid for some but there were no surprises. I wouldn't give my kids free rein on spending no matter how old or responsible they were. It's not their money they're spending. They should be getting permission before charging.

How about telling her what her daily limit is? If she blows it, privilege gone.
This is a good option. You can go to guest services at any time to ask for a printout of charges. They have it broken out by person.

the arcade cards are separate. I got my son one and he could use it without his KTTW card. It was based on minutes played.

When did they get rid of the Arcade on the Magic? It was there in February 2015, just before the Adult Pool, and couldn't get DS out of there a couple of times. Is it still on the Wonder?
Asking bc will be on the Wonder and want to avoid that place, well want DS to avoid it.
Thanks

I may be in the minority but....Yippee! And thanks for the update. Now how do I get rid of it on the Wonder before April hmmmmm? Perhaps Mickey will take Mom's charging privileges away :rolleyes1

On our last cruise two of our children lost their cards and had to have them replaced during the cruise. After worrying about whether or not someone else was charging on the first lost card we took off charging privilege s.

Lol don't judge me for asking a dumb question... But we haven't cruised before. DCL hasn't upgraded to magic bands yet? Does anyone know if this will change by August?

My fiancé and I are pin traders and I was going to get him the cruise lanyard in the shop parks app for Valentine's Day. If we need to carry a kttw key around I'll grab the zipper pouch too.

While you can't limit the spending, you can keep it turned off and have her call/text you on the wave phone and you can come use your card when she wants to buy something if you approve of it. The rooms all come with 2 wave phones.

The kids clubs use them but they are not in use for passengers in general. I don't see that changing by August but ya never know. I'd plan on having a KTTW card.
