I found this info on the portorleans dot org website, and had some questions about it:

Key to the World card. Not only does this card act as your room key, but it also means that you’ve got less to carry around all day as it provides:

* Charging privileges for purchases and meals in Walt Disney World
* Park Admission (at extra charge)
Note: if you already have pre-purchased park tickets, take them to the Front Desk and they can swap them onto your Key to the World card
* Extra Magic Hours ID card
* Disney Dining Plan card

Okay.... so does this mean I can charge my food (ADRS) to my room bill? We are not on the dining plans.
We have already purchased tickets - they will take my tickets and put them on a card?
Is this my room card? Anyone help me out? I'm confused....
Thanks!!:thumbsup2

Yup! You got it! If you give the front desk your credit card info at check in you can use your room key for charging! So when you eat..have them charge it to your room! You can also have your tickets added to it! It really is soooo great!

Yes to all of the above. It does make everything quite simple. My DD's friend lost her card and they made a new one in about 10 seconds. Have fun.

Yes, it is your room card. Yes, you can use it to make room charges (stuff charged back to your room.) It is accepted almost everywhere. It also gets you free parking in the parking lots and is your proof of eligibility for the morning EMHs. And if you want to, you can have your tickets added to it and use it to enter parks.

You have to have a credit card backing up your chages, though. You leave your number with the desk.

There is also a limit to the amount of stuff you can charge to your room. It varies depending on the type of hotel you stay in. It used to be $500 (value), $1000 (moderate), or $1500 (deluxe) per day. I don't know if those limits have increased over the last few years or not. The limits have zip to do with the available balance on your credit card. They are Disney-imposed limits.

It should also be said the spending limit at each Resort category is different. If your staying at a Value Resort the limit is $500, at the Moderate Resorts the limit is $1000 and the Deluxe/DVC Resorts the limit is $1500. The only one I am not sure of is Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Also...If you reach your limit, let's say $500, you can call the hotel and have them give you another $500. They just remove the charges from your card and put them on your credit card. And FYI, when you charge to you card, it adds up really quickly. :scared1: So if you are budgeting (sp.), beware of that.

You should be able to charge all of your meal including the tip. From what somebody told me recently, for those of us who are on the dining plan, you can charge the tips to your key card, since it's no longer included in the DDP.

This is not accruate.

You can set up a room charge with cash, travelers checks, Disney Dollars, and debit cards (with VISA/MC logo), as well as with credit cards.

So to repeat, you DO NOT have to have a credit card backing up your room charges.

He is right and I am wrong.

I should have said that you have to have some form of payment backing up your charges. Doesn't have to be a credit card.

Mea culpa.
