Key card electricity

Hi,

This is my first time cruising. I was wondering I know that when you remove the key card from the stateroom slot, the lights turn off. Does it also turn off the air conditioner/AC? Would I be able to leave something such as a back up battery there to be charged or do the electric outlets turn off as well? Thanks.

Not sure about the outlets, but the AC doesn't turn off.

I don't think the outlets "turn off". I say this because the wave phone continued to charge whether or not we had the key in the lights slot. Also, I could swear there were a couple of times we walked into the room, started watching tv, etc, and because of the light coming in from the sliding door we didn't realize no one put a key card in the slot - it wouldn't be until someone went to use the pitch dark bathroom that we realized.

Neither the power outlets or the AC power down when the key is removed from the slot. As far as I can tell, all the keyslot does is turn off the lights.

I always just put a folded piece of paper or an old library card or something in the slot. That way we never come in to a dark or hot room.

Removing the card turned off the lights and TV for us.

We liked it. Shut everything off by just lifting any card a 1/2 inch in the slot.

I'm not sure I see the point. Unlike many hotel rooms, the key slot on DCL does NOT turn off the AC. And, when you're not in the room, why do you need the lights to remain on?
