Kevin's T Rex review

Kevin should back and try eating at the bar. Wednesday evening around 9pm, we had split the $14 plate of nachos that pretty filling (liquid cheese not shredded), $9.99 Tropical cotto-tini (got to keep the shaker), and a Coke for NC Beast. There was a lot of noise/light chaning effects, asking if we are good/need more drinks/food, and our opinions. The noise tolerable at the bar and we were able to maintain conversations when we were not mesmerize by the effects. The build-a-dino and the store was not too busy and the front people stopped announcing names around 10 pm. I guess that they tone down the outside effects about a hour before their closing time. The shop had a great range of gifts that includes a T-Rex plastic cup that flashes for about $5 (it maybe less), dino theme books, dino theme games, and other neat things.

One manager gave us a takeout menu so that is a benefit for those who don't need the show.
See? The bar is ALWAYS better!

Is someone seriously suggesting that only a member of a family with children ought to be reviewing Walt Disney World restaurants, because that's the target audience?

How old should the children be? I understand T-Rex is scaring the toddlers, I guess they are not the target audience.

Not even close to what I was suggesting...in fact I never offered any suggestion...just asked folks opinions.....

I see kevin right there, smiling and waving... so there is your pic. And I'll up you from handsome to often sexy.

:) I think that Safetymom did a great job with that picture---NC Beast looks thinner in the face/body and she got rid of my bad hair day. ;)

I can live with loud noises. I can live with overzealous wait staff. I can live with dinosaurs. I can live with bad lighting. However, one thing I won't stand for are overinflated prices!!!

Disney is just forcing me to eat off-site more often by raising food prices to ridiculous levels. I know the Dinourant is not owned by Disney, but it has the same high pricing.

Kevin, I'd like to hear more about restaurants off-property.

Ok, my first time listening to this podcast thing, and I did it just for the review of T-Rex and the reviewer sounded as if he's the type to just hate loud eating places so to each their own , I was still looking forward to eating there, but boy whenever he told how much the meals were running, geez...it was like a knife in the stomach, I'm glad I listened, I had no idea that it was that expensive...that makes me sick, way over my head, I wonder if you can just go in and have a desert and coke?

Dh and I had no trouble just going in for drinks and shared an appetizer. We had no issues with silverware and the managers/staff were asking our opinions. We had a great time and I usually not much for noisy resteraunts.

DH and I were in the world on 10/19 and went to T-Rex to see if we could get in. We walked up to the front and noticed how loud it was (and not just the person calling the people to be seated), and we decided that was not for us.

I'm not saying that it's a bad place to go, because how would we know, but first impression was that the place was extremely loud and for the two of us, that wasn't what we wanted to do, so we went to Fulton's Crab House and had a great meal.

Thanks for the review Kevin, you supported what I was feeling when I was standing outside the restaurant.

We ate at T-Rex on Tuesday 10/21 about 3:15pm and liked it, BUT it was not at all crowded. There was no wait at all, we walked right up and were seated immediately. In fact I'd say there were only about 8-10 tables seated in the whole place and the one big forest looking room wasn't being seated at all, so we didn't have the loud announcements going on. The dinosaurs were loud, but they definitely weren't "going off" as frequently as when Kevin and John were there. I only remember them going off 3 times our entire meal. Even the Build-A-Dinosaur only had 2 other families in it. So no line there either. We got 3 kid's meals, which were a nice size, my sister had a burger and I had the chicken flatbread appetizer (which was huge and really good) as my meal so our check wasn't too outrageous. I did notice the dinners were pretty darn expensive though. I think the place is worth a try if you can go outside of a busy time. We had great service, but I too noticed alot of managers around.

Given that this restaurant is opened/operated by the same group that does Rainforest, what would one expect but a loud overthemed restauant with higher than expected prices? I think anyone who is going to T-Rex had to expect that going in, and while I completely agree with Kevin that a restaurant that loud would make one not want to return, that is only if one does not want that type of experience. DW & I used to go to the local Rainforest when they first opened and the experience was similar to what Kevin described - an army of waitstaff, pretty good food at too expensive prices, and over the top noise and theming. When he described T-Rex, it was spot on what I was expecting. The good thing is that if someone didn't know what to expect going there, Kevin has given that person a pretty good description of what to expect, and now everyone has to decide for themselves if they want that experience. I know we will definitely go there at least once to experience it.......maybe Kevin will join us???? My treat if he does!!!!!

I'm new to the podcasts but have listened to the shows since July. Simply stated, Kevin (at times) seems to forget the fact that he moved to the theme park capital of the world, i.e. Orlando, and that the majority of visitors to any Disney or Universal property are looking for attractions and theming commensurate with prices paid and something beyond most find in Suburbia, USA. According to Kevin's review, it seems T-Rex is a success. It's over the top, brash, legitimate food and an experience beyond Applebees, which sounds like a place Kevin and John would be more comfortable dining at.

Wow - Applebees?? That is harsh......

You know, it's okay to have opposing views, but this is quite a rude thing (bolding mine) to put out there. Did you come up with a new screen name just to trash them? Isn't THAT special.

Oh please. If you have been listening since July you should know Kevin and John's love for living in the theme park capital of the world. Do they blindly applaud everything that is there? No. Would I want them to? No.
They give us their honest views and opinions...which Kevin has stated many times are just that...opinions. Take them or leave them. Form your own, he encourages it.
