Kevin's restaurant experience

I have eaten at a restaurant just like the place Kevin described! This was years ago - a friend took me out to a fancy place in Annapolis, MD to celebrate my college graduation. But the waiter did the same things that Kevin described. I would put my water glass down and the waiter would come by and move it to where it "should" be on the table. I think he even chided me to not touch something because that was "his job".

My friend and I ended up laughing through dinner and it provided many laughs as we told all our other friends about the experience.

I DO remember that I ordered the gnocci!

 I think I know which Annapolis restaurant (I used to live in the Annapolis area before I married). Please share the name.

:)

Oh I have no idea what the name of the place was - that was...let's see...1988. Yikes!

I remember that we started messing with the waiter - just putting things in various places on the table to see if he would come back and rearrange. (He did!)

It sounds like it could had been one of the places that one of my sis' early boyfriends worked back in 88---it was on Rt 2 near Parole. I could name a couple of the fancier ones that were on West st/Main street/City dock areas that were known for the fussiness.

My wedding rehearsal dinner was overlooking the South River--- something name like Fergie's---fussy wait staff.

It's not nearly as fussy as the restaurant that Kevin reviewed, but I once was invited to dinner at the private Columbia Tower Club in Seattle, and we had one server for each person (there were 4 of us) at the table. And when they brought out each course of the meal, they all came in unison and did what I can only describe as a dance arount the table with our silver-covered dishes. It was very "Hello Dolly". :) Then, after circling the table abut 5 times, they set the covered plates down in front of us, but they weren't done yet. Then they stood in place and passed the covered plates back and forth and around, like a shell game above our heads, and finally (after making it seem like all the plates were "well-shuffled", they were set down before us, the silver lids removed, and "voila" we each had exactly what we ordered. It was fun, like a magic trick, but after the soup and salad and appetizers, I was kind of like, "You know, you can just bring the food and skip the little dance from here on out."
