I am thinking about my next clear CT present and I was considering the iPad. Have you been using the iPad for reading as opposed to your Kindle? How is book reading on the iPad? If I could lose a device in my purse it would be great.

I have tried using the iPad for reading and it's ok for short periods.

If I'm going to sit and read for longer periods....I go back to my Kindle.

The iPad is good if you are sitting at a desk...or sitting in a chair where you can prop the iPad against something. My issue is that's not really how I read. I read in the car....while I'm waiting for someone...and mostly, in bed before I go to sleep.

Having the back lighting alleviates the need for an external light source.....but the iPad is heavier and more cumbersome that the Kindle with the light attached. It's just over double the weight of the Kindle (Kindle 10.2 ounces to iPad 24 ounces or 1.5 lbs.) and larger....which all makes it less comfortable to hold.

I find myself in the group that sees a use and a need for both.

I'm very happy with my iPad...but it doesnt replace my Kindle.

I know it has a tiny screen, but I enjoy reading in my iPhone using the Kindle app, because it's small and lightweight and I don't need an external light source.

Thanks, Kevin and Mike. I must say I do like reading on my iPod Touch because of the back light. I haven't even held an iPad yet. I will have to take a trip to the Apple store and check it out and see what I think of the weight and display.
