So my Starbucks coffee stash is down from 20lbs to 6lbs :scared1:  :sad2: :sad1:

I'm trying to figure out which will be cheaper for us. For 2 people, we go through a pound of coffee in about 1 week and a few days. But sometimes with every pot we make, there is always enough left over for 2 cups at least.

Which is cheaper: The Keruig or the Coffee Maker??? :confused3

I would think if you wanted to figure out if the Keurig was cheaper, you would need to figure out how many cups of coffee you drink a day, week, whatever and compare it that way. For me a Keurig is much cheaper since I don't drink a lot of coffee and always ended up throwing half a pot of coffee out- plus I hate to clean out coffee pots so for me it works much better.

I would always make a large pot of coffee and sometimes forget about it and dump half of it.
I refill my keurig K cups with my own coffee.... I bought k -Kup caps from ebay and from My- Kaps. We go through about 10 K- cups per day. Have a fresh cup when we want it. No more wasted coffee.

Well from a 12-cup pot that I make everyday, there is usually about 2 cups leftover that I throw away.

Okay, so the max that a Keurig machine can make is only one cup at a time right? Not sure if that will work since DH takes his big thermos to work with him and he usually pours about 3-4 cups in his thermos...

How much are the keurig cups and how many little cups come to a pack?

I love my keurig, but I only drink 4 cups a week. I think average best price on kcups from amazon is 20 bucks for 48 cups. I would choose the keurig for the convieniance and fun!

That's almost $5/day!!! Cheap compared to stopping at Starbucks...but WAY more expensive than a standard coffee pot! (even if you throw half a pot away)

Compared to using Starbucks, I'm guessing it's a wash or cheaper to use the Keurig. Compared to using store brand coffee, the Keurig is more. But I love it anyway! We still use both.

You can buy a filter cup for the Keurig so you can use ground cofffee.

Why not just brew 10 cups of coffee so you don't throw any away?

I love our Keurig, however we only drink 2-4 cups per day. I also use it for instant soup, and hot chocolate in the winter. You can probably figure spending 40cents per keurig pod. I don't think I would be filling DH's thermos with pods. It's definately a plus in our house as I never have to clean the pot, and dump coffee grounds in the trash. It is a little troublesome when we have company and you want to sit and have coffee together. I usually drag out the Mr. Coffee and brew a pot for big gatherings.

It is much less. I reuse the k-cups. Wash them fill them with my own coffee and cap them with My-Kaps I bought online. That way I can have them ready to go on my carousel. I also buy the 50 pack of K cup coffee at Amazon on subscribe and save. That is an extra 15% savings.

The regular coffee pot will be cheaper if you are a big coffee drinker. I have and use both. On weekdays I use the k cups and we all chipped in for one at works s well. On the weekends I brew a pot because I know we will have time to relax and enjoy. At about 45 to 50 cents per k cup they are less expensive than starbucks or tim horton's but more expensive than brewing your own pot at home.

The Keurig is not cheap coffee by any means. I figure it's about 55 cents a cup using Amazon's subscribe and save for my cups.

However, before the Keurig I was drinking Starbucks and/or Dunkin Donuts at least 6 days a week. So even the Keurig cost me $1 a cup it would still be cheaper. :rotfl:

You can make the larger cups--I use a 34 oz mug on crazy days. Two large cups is all I need then add my milk and ice.

I LOVED my Keurig. I woke up every morning and told it good morning, I mean it when I say I LOVED it... until it died less then a year after buying it. :sad1: We kept up with the cleaning and filter changing. That was a lot of money to pay for something that went up so quickly. I am not saying that this will happen to anyone else, but I did want to pass along what happened to us.

We are back on the coffee maker.

I actually drink less w/y Keurig- so it's definitely healthier. Like the ice tea and hot chocolate.

Did you check with Keurig? I know a couple of people who have gotten new ones under the warranty.

I, personally, love my Keurig! It is expensive, but I've only been to Caribou once since I bought it. I did keep my old coffee maker for company and such. My only gripe is storing the k-cups....my house is small with a tiny kitchen, I just don't have a ton of room for them.

No question that it's cheaper to make a pot of coffee than to use those one cup machines. I make a "pot" of coffee everyday...it says it's "6 cups", but it really fills my large mug twice. I drink one cup. Then refrigerate the other, and reheat it the next day. Still tastes just fine to me. We pay $14 for a three pound bag of coffee at Costco, and we EASILY get 30 pots of coffee from that. So, less than 50 cents a pot for very strong coffee, or for the cup I drink, less than a quarter. I had one of those cup things, and the coffee was way too weak for my taste. If I made the 5 ounce version it *almost* was strong enough, but the 5 ounce size was less than 1/2 the amount of coffee I wanted to drink. It was costing me more than twice as much to drink coffee that wasn't as good. :confused3 I gave the machine away, and went back to brewing a pot every other day.

Never thought about putting the extra coffee in the fridge and heating it up the next day! Good idea! :thumbsup2

I think why I want a Keurig machine so much is because I hear you can also make tea and hot chocolate with it...are the teas and hot chocolate pretty good??

I'd say the kureg. I use an espresso machine and honestly the cost of the machine is way more then I pay for coffee in one year. But I love my expresso machine and I love freshly ground coffee. I think it all depends on what you like. I personally don't like those premixed coffee pods. They remind me to much of college we had one of those machines and all the coffee you could drink. Trust me I've had every flavor I still love a fresh pressed expresso with steamed milk or hot water.

My mother has a Keurig. She lives alone and bought one of those refillable containers so she can use generic coffee with it. It's perfect for her. My "cup" would take 3 or 4 of those to fill so I use a regular old coffee pot.

She also had a problem with her first one. She called customer service and they sent her a shipping labe to return hers plus a brand new one (newer model also) to replace it. Very happy with that.

We are back on the coffee maker.

Keurig will send you a replacement if under a year. I've had ours at the office replaced just need to send back the Kcup holder.
