Ketchakiddee Creek - Height restriction enforcement

Thinking of lots of questions today.

I know that Disney is very strict (and in my opinion rightly so) on the height restrictions for rides.

How well do they enforce the UNDER 48 inches restriction at Ketchakiddee Creek.

I sound like a moaner today but I am tired of taking my small children to things that have height restrictions or age restriction which should allow them to play without older, bigger kids trampling and pushing them out of the way (can you tell I was at one yesterday) but even though signs are posted everywhere about the restriction kids and parents apparently can't read and staff do nothing about it.

Thanks in advance

Kirsten

From my experience, they don't bother you if you have a child under 48 and another over 48 as long as the bigger child doesn't get out of control.:thumbsup2

Nothing seems to happen unless a little one gets hurt, and then 10 minutes later more big kids show up. We've pretty much had to stop going to places like that.
We were planning on going to Ketchakiddie creek, I hope it's not too crazy.

My son was just 48 inches last year and was not permitted to use any of the little slides in Blizzard Beach. They were VERY strict. He is not a swimmer and he did use the little kids slides in Typhoon Lagoon. They also had one slide right off the wave pool that he was able to use. We are definately going back to Typhoon Lagoon this year and staying away from Blizzard Beach. I didn't care much for it and their lazy river seemed like it was filled with leaves from the trees that block the sun.

In our experience, they are very strict about the slides, etc. My DD was just at 48 inches a few years ago but she was not measuring tall enough to ride the slides with a 48" height restriction. Even though her two younger siblings were under 48", she was not allowed to ride any of the slides at the kiddie areas (not sure of the names). She could run around and splash with them though.

I know what you mean! I hate when parents just let their kids run wild and trample the little kids without watching them. We had no problems at Ketchakidee creek IIRC, but we did have a hard time at the little playground under Splash mtn. I forget what it's called but it's for younger kids and there were some older ones in there running wild!

I have a tall 6 yr old and hope he can play on the little stuff too while dd (~3) is there. He's good and cautious around little ones. Id hate to have to make him sit and wait while she has fun, and Im not about to let him go off on his own. It will just be me and the 2 kids at TL.

They nicely asked my son to leave, he was going with his smaller sister. I felt bad, I didn't realize he was over the limit or I wouldn't have even permitted him to go at all. That area is always supervised very closely which is a good thing.

We haven't done the water parks, but my DS always plays in the play areas in the parks with his younger DD. I had 1 parent make a rude comment to me, but as my DS was playing with his sister, being careful of the younger kids, not hurting anyone... I informed them of another play area they could go to if they chose. ;) I don't like seeing big kids get rowdy, but sometimes they don't have a choice except be in there with their parent, and should be allowed to play. JMHO... flame away!

I totally agree. We'll be at Typhoon Lagoon the week after next, and my 9 and 7 year old daughters will be playing with my 4 year old son at Ketchakiddee Creek. They love little kids and won't be rowdy. If they were, I would send them somewhere with their dad. I

If I had to guess, I'd say that the people who don't want bigger kids there at all in addition to staying off the slides are people who's oldest child is under 48in.

I think a lot of the problems with the some of the bigger kids is that they are deemed old enough to be left alone or without direct supervision. Kids are rowdy, and there are usually 3 or 4 chasing each other and having a good ol' time.
I actually find that moms are more attentive, and kids are more well behaved at playgrounds with no apparent height restriction. The crazy place in the mall (you know the one I speak of!) is insane and always overrun with kids who's parents have left them there while they shop.

I just kinda feel sorry for the little ones who FINALLY have a place to play where you don't have to be 3 inches away from them so they don't get run over, or don't have to constantly pull them out of peoples way. Then it gets taken over.
I don't have any kids over 48 inches, so maybe I will feel differently later - but if bigger kids get to play there too - what's the point?

While appreciate the difficulties of having children who fit into different categories if you are as a parent are watching and ensuring that your children are behaving well, not pushing and shoving or using the equipment constantly I have no problems with them being there. My issue is with the ones that just leave their kids to get on with it.

Please also remember that my children cannot go in the other areas because they are too small so they shouldn't have to miss out or worry about being hurt in an area designed for them, when larger children have the choice of another area. A lot of kids don't mean to hurt them but they get over excited and accidentally wipe other kids out.

I do feel for the wee girl in a previous post who was too small for the big slides and to big for the little ones, stuck in nowhere land can't have been very nice. :goodvibes
