Kerry voters, why are you voting for him

I am happy that John Kerry watches, asseses and changes
his mind depending on the facts. He's obviously not going to
be a rigid DICtator like Bush was. Give me a flexible good listener and I'll show you a born leader. Rigidity is not a family value.

The we will see no flip flopping Bush references from you, I take it?

NOW he does, but he didn't always:

Kerry Voted For Patriot Act. The Patriot Act was passed nearly unanimously by the Senate 98-1, and 357-66 in the House. (H.R. 3162, CQ Vote #313: Passed 98-1: R 49-0; D 48-1; I 1-0, 10/25/01, Kerry Voted Yea)

Kerry Used To Defend His Vote. “Most of [The Patriot Act] has to do with improving the transfer of information between CIA and FBI, and it has to do with things that really were quite necessary in the wake of what happened on September 11th.” (Sen. John Kerry, Remarks At Town Hall Meeting, Manchester, NH, 8/6/03)

Wonder how he'll feel next year...or the year after that.....

ETA: Kerry's most recent stance is that he will not REVISE the Patriot Act, he will REPLACE it.

Now, Kerry Attacks Patriot Act. “We are a nation of laws and liberties, not of a knock in the night. So it is time to end the era of John Ashcroft. That starts with replacing the Patriot Act with a new law that protects our people and our liberties at the same time. I’ve been a District Attorney and I know that what law enforcement needs are real tools not restrictions on American’s basic rights.” (Sen. John Kerry, Remarks At Iowa State University, Iowa City, IA, 12/1/03)

Well, he's like me then. I do, but I didn't always. This is another reason I'll vote for Kerry -- he isn't "full speed ahead" like Bush, no matter what. Bush has been nothing if not stubborn about practically every decision he's made. That scares the heck ourt of me - his arrogance and inflexibility. Thank God Kerry can look at things and change his mind, based on new information and new intelligence. Who knows how I'll feel. Who knows how you'll feel.

and changes his mind depending.........

That could very well be the trait of a follower rather than a leader.

Kerry can look at things and change his mind, based on new information and new intelligence.

What new information did he get between August and December of 2003?

I don't know who discovered what when -- all we know is what we're told. I just know that the Patriot Act has been looking worse and worse to me and I'm glad it's been looking worse and worse to somebody besides me....

John Kerry defended his voting for the Patriot Act by saying it was necessary because we were in the "wake" of 9/11. I think we still are. Apparently, Kerry doesn't think so anymore because he doesn't think it's necessary. That's why I'm voting for Bush. I'm sure the Act will be played around with - the Constitution wasn't perfect at first either. But, if it was necessary to Kerry then, but not now, something changed his mind about where we are in relation to 9/11. I don't agree with his latest version of where we are.

If he had never voted for it, that would be one thing. He voted for it, defended it and then, all of sudden, decided we didn't need it anymore. I would like to know what changed his mind. I don't think that's asking for too much from a possible leader of my country.

:D Not exactly - his opinion of it has changed a little more gradually than that -- as he's had time, as we all have to see it in action and Ashcroft abuse it!!!!

We all see the need for something like the Patriot Act -- Kerry doesn't want to throw us to the wolves!

Really? Examples, please. I mean, personally, the Patriot Act has not affected me. And the basic foundation of the Patriot Act has been around since 1978

I'm really happy to hear that it hasn't affected you...:D . But how about the people who have been denied due process. How about using it to investigate things other than terrorism? Like I said, we need something like it. We just need a different "it" . Or at least a different administration to enforce it.

Actually, I think it's mere potential for abuse is scary enough. You folks that don't see the need to be vigilant of our personal freedoms are making a big mistake, IMO.

It has affected you...You may not know it yet but rest assured privacies you may think or thought you once had are no longer guaranteed and in one way or another, noticiable or not, the erosion of our personal liberties (thanks to the bush regime) is continuing and does affect you.
