Keratin Treatment and Swimming

My DD had a Keratin treatment done this spring and at the time she was told that it basically kills the treatment if you go swimming - something in the chlorine I guess. The pool that she usually swims in is actually a salt water pool, but they said that is causes the same problems.

Anyway, she got it done and loved it, but her hair is definitely back to its frizzy ways now that she's gone swimming. She's planning on getting it done again later this summer before she heads off to college.

I was just wondering is anyone has found a way around this. I doubt it, but I told that if anyone would have an idea it would be someone on the disboards! I really hate for her not to be able to swim without ruining the treatment.

I have regular keratin treatments. The salt water and chlorine will cause the treatment to wear off. The treatment is like a sealant or coating on your hair. The salt water and chlorine is abrasive and wears it off. That's how it was explained to me.

I don't like getting my hair wet in the ocean so don't. I rarely go in the ocean past my knees but that's another thread. For a pool, we don't have a pool at home but when we go on vacation I try not to go under and get my hair wet very often. The only way around it is to wear a swim cap but those aren't cute.

Well, it won't stop the removal completely, but you might be able to slow it down with a good leave-in conditioner applied before and after she exposes it to chlorine (and washing it immediately after swimming should go without saying.) We use Pravana Nevo Intense Therapy; it's pretty good for battling chlorine damage.
